Mumbai, October 9: Two of the 20 suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists arrested by the city police are alleged to have orchestrated the serial blasts in Hyderabad in 2007 which claimed over 40 lives, officials said in Mumbai.

Mohammed Akbar Ismail Chaudhary, who was recently arrested, had rented a bungalow in the upscale Habshiguda area of Hyderabad almost a month prior to the serial blasts on August 25 last year, police said.

"He and Anique Shafique Shaikh rented the bungalow where they stayed for almost a month and surveyed crowded spots in the city where blasts could be carried out," a senior police official from the crime branch said.

Chaudhary also received the delivery of explosives which is suspected to have brought from Mangalore, he said.

"About two days prior to the blasts Riyaz Bhatkal alias Roshan Khan arrived in Hyderabad," the official said.

Using timers allegedly sent by Mohammed Arif Shaikh, the arrested bomb maker, the trio assembled the bombs and on August 25 placed them at three locations in the city, he said.

The bomb allegedly planted by Chaudhary failed to explode while the other bombs planted at Gokul Chaat by Bhatkal and at Lumbini Park by Anique exploded, the official said.

A team from Hyderabad police was in the city for questioning Anique and Chaudhary on the matter, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said.

A real Farce by Anonymous on 09 Oct 2008

Indian police need not be congratulated but reprimanded for being unprofessional and subverting the course of justice by pandering to political demands rather than seeking the truth and the Indian public needs also to understand that they need to hear the truth and not just anything that caters to their prejudices and perceptions.

Tall Tales by Anon on 09 Oct 2008

These police seem to make up really tall tales. How do they know who was involved. Any one of us in a police lockup would tell them anything they want to hear. Meanwhile, the real culprits are continueing being a danger...

Interrogation by Sri on 10 Oct 2008

What problem do you have? Let the police do their job. If you support the terrorists you are one of them. If you don't know they get this information from the terrorists in interrogation.

Why doubt police credential? by Alex on 10 Oct 2008

This type of doubt is now a days expressed openly either by low grade politicians (such as SP and RJD) or by muslims themselves. The details given in the report about hiring a Bungalow in Hyderabad for a month etc could be easily traced out to ascertain the truth. I request the muslim community to be gracious to express strongly against terrorit act by their misguided youths, stop sympathizing with terrorists and cooperate with police investigation. In fact Bombay police has claimed that many of the leads were provided by common man (mostly muslims) and this is a very good thing to hear after a long time.

looks like you know the real culprits. Why don't you go and assist the security forces. In this way not only you will do your national duty as well save the so called innocent.
