New Delhi, March 7 Two policemen were hurt after they were beaten up by locals in two separate incidents. The first incident was reported from Govindpuri in Kalkaji, when a traffic PCR was doing routine checking. A man riding a UP-registered bike without a helmet was stopped by the PCR police. As police were challaning him, in a fit of rage the motorcyclist assaulted the PCR van driver, Constable Rohtash.

“His query was on whose authority a PCR van was cutting challans. He beat up the driver, who suffered some minor injuries,” said a senior police officer.

In the second incident, a group of people beat up a patrolling traffic policeman in Delhi Cantonment area. Police said that a Tata car overtook another vehicle illegally and spotting this the policeman chased the car.

“After stopping the car, the driver called up his friends, who arrived at the spot and beat the officer. He suffered some minor injuries,” said a police officer.

In both the cases, the assailants have been arrested and cases of assault on police officers on duty have been registered against them.
