Panchkula, March 17 Two employees of Vishal Mega Mart claimed they were robbed of Rs 45,000 at gunpoint late on Monday afternoon. The employees said they were looted by four unidentified turbaned youths in a white Zen.

Satinder and Kamal were returning to Vishal Mega Mart in Sector 5 on a motorcycle after collecting cash from Axis Bank in Sector 10. They said they were stopped by some men in a white Maruti Zen near the HAFED building in Sector 5.

“The incident took place around 2.30 in the afternoon. The moment Satinder and Kamal reached the HAFED point in Sector 5, they were overtaken by a white Zen,” said Ashitosh Raina, manager of Vishal Mega Mart.

Raina said the employees were in a state of shock. They said two of the four youths got out from the car and started hitting them. “While one of the unidentified youths was carrying a pistol, the other started hitting and slapping them. They snatched the cash from the employees at gunpoint and fled,” said Raina.

This is the second such case in the city in the recent past. Earlier, too, a white Maruti Zen had been involved and the robbery had been carried out by turbaned man.

On January 18 this year, three unidentified men had robbed the cashier and driver of Berkeley Automobile in Industrial Area of Rs 5.16 lakh at gunpoint.

The robbery had taken place near the busy Amartex lightpoint.

The two Berkeley employees were on their way to the bank to deposit cash.

Panchkula police claimed they had managed to get some vital clues in the Amartex robbery case, and that a special team had been constituted under the DSP (City) to look into the matter. Police said sketches of the three youths were being made. The sketches, however, have not been released.
