The Hospitality Training Institute (HTI) in Matunga (West) and Global Institute of Management Science (GIMS) in Santacruz have been given time to submit their representation to the State government for reconsideration.
“The court on Monday asked the government to give the two institutes time to check their credentials and submit their representation so that the government can reconsider the proposal and accordingly take further action,” said an official.
HTI director (projects) Dominic Costabir confirmed, “We have got the stay order and two weeks’ time to apply to AICTE for change in nomenclature.”
The High Court order for closure had come in view of the fact that some colleges in Mumbai and Pune did not have the requisite All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) authorisation to conduct programmes.
The court had directed that the “14 institutions which have not replied to the notices issued by the government should be closed down, and if necessary, the government should make appropriate arrangement to seal those institutions, so that people do not fall prey to them.” The State government was also asked to take criminal action against the institutes and file an action report.
Accordingly, the State government had issued letters to the police Commissionrates concerned so that action can be taken against the erring institutes and lodging of complaint is currently under progress. The State joint director’s office has also been authorised to take necessary action.
When questioned what kind of action could be taken against the institutes which might have shifted to some other location and could be running classes using different names, another official said that the police would have to investigate the matter.
“It is also the responsibility of the public to be more alert and complain to the police or the State if they come to know of such unauthorised institutes,” said the official.
