Chandigarh, January 10 Two Chandigarh Traffic Police personnel — one head constable and another constable — were arrested today on charges of taking bribe for letting a motorist get away without being challaned for traffic violation.

Information was given to the traffic police control room (1073) by a passerby, who noticed the two traffic police personnel accepting money. The matter was inquired into by Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) A S Ahlawat, who placed Head Constable Nirmal Singh and Constable Janak Raj under suspension and transferred them to

security lines.

At about 3.45 pm, the accused had stopped a Tata Safari (PB-32G-0077), after noticing that the driver of the vehicle was not wearing the safety-belt. They allowed the vehicle to go without a challan and instead allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 200.
