New Delhi, March 7 Two persons who burgled several shops in Shakarpur after befriending watchmen have been arrested, east district police said today.

A watchman, Kanta Prasad, who guarded the showrooms of Raymonds and Tanishq at Shakarpur, has also been arrested, police said.

Police say that it was with his connivance that the accused—Pawan Kumar (21) and Chandar Tiwari (20)—broke into a mobile showroom and made away with mobile phones and cash.

According to Special Staff officers, the duo are painters. “They own a rickshaw and go for their painting jobs in the morning. At night, the duo would visit the markets on their rickshaw,” a senior police officer said.

“They would offer liquor to the watchman and befriend him. They would then give him some money and send him off for a few minutes, during which they would break into the shops and steal,” the officer said.
