According to Dr V T Sebastian, Chairman, Department of Philosophy, the seminar is intended to discuss issues in the realm of moral values, moral criteria and moral estimation of the individual in the present Indian society as the contemporary India faces new and grave difficulties not merely of an economic, political and national nature, but of a new culture where the individuality of a person is questioned and even thwarted.
The seminar participants include intellectuals, bureaucrats, editors of national dailies, advocates, NGOs and personnel from police. According to Dr Sebastian, the importance of public morality has never been adequately debated as an issue in the universities and institutions of higher learning.
The seminar is expected to be presided over by professor S K Kulkarni, Dean University Instruction, and the inaugural address will be by A J Philip, Chief Editor, The Tribune.
According to Dr V T Sebastian, the speakers at the seminar include Avtar Singh (IAS), DIG (CBI) B L Soni and professors Satya P Gautam from JNU, Julka from the Department of Economics, Ronki Ram from the Department of Political Science, Sherry Sabbarwal and Manjit Singh from the Department of Sociology, H P Sah and V T Sebastian from the Department of Philosophy, and from the Department of English there will be Akshay Kumar and Sudhir Kumar.
Professor Ramakant Angiras will deliver the keynote address.
