Tytler, Sajjan shouldn't have got the tickets: Dikshit

New Delhi Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had cautioned the Congress party on the issue of giving tickets for Lok Sabha elections to Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar whose names had cropped up in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and suggested that it could wait for the court verdict before fielding them.

"I think it would have been a wiser thing to do," Dikshit told a TV channel when asked whether she thought the party should have waited till a court verdict in the cases against the leaders accused in the riots cases.

The candidature of Tytler and Sajjan Kumar came under question after a Sikh journalist lobbed a shoe at Home Minister P Chidambaram to protest the clean chit given to Tytler by the CBI in anti-Sikh riots case.

The party dropped them from the electoral fray following protests from various quarters and fielded DPCC chief J P Aggarwal in place of Tytler from north-east Delhi and Sajjan Kumar's brother, Ramesh Kumar from South Delhi.

The Chief Minister said she had conveyed her view that the party could wait because the capital was going to polls in the fourth phase only.

"I did say that let us wait because we were going into the election only in the fourth round. So there was time, They could have been told. But perhaps the party thought otherwise, I don't want to say 'I said so' or any thing," she said.

Asked whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself was reluctant in the matter, Dikshit said he did not say anything. He did not say "yes or no anything like that."

MMS the Seat Warmer by Ajay Naik on 03 May 2009

This is nothing but hoodwinkig by Sheilaji. She and everybody in the Congress knows that our so called PM MMS is nothing but a selected seat warmer for the prince Rahul and eventually he has to vacate PM's throne. It is very clear that he is neither consulted and looks like does not bother himself about who is given ticket and who is denied or for that matter ever running India.

Tytler, Sajjan shouldn't have got the tickets: Dikshit by Peter Blanchard on 03 May 2009

After thought eh , Sheila Dikshit ? Prove your sincerity by bringing those guilty to justice and not waiting for the Supreme Court to intervene as was done in the case of the Gujarat riot of 2002. Another thing, ask your party men not to take the high moral grount regarding the Gujarat riots when your own party is up to your shoulder blades in blood of the Sikhs

Tytler by Dharmaraj on 02 May 2009

Sonia and her congress cohorts decision on Tytler and Sajjan will prove to be a small mistake compared to her covet and silent actions on Srilankan Tamil Genocide when the elections results are out.

Tytler, Sajjan shouldn't have got the tickets: Dikshit by anand on 02 May 2009

dear Mrs. dik-"shit", i refer to the last line in the above column "Asked whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself was reluctant in the matter, Dikshit said he did not say anything. He did not say "yes or no anything like that."" do you really think that the prime minister Mr. MMS would have said anything against the diktats of the so called High command, please get real, we admire you for your work but please accept the fact that without SRP's (Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka) nod nothing would work in the congress led system. serves right the people of india for we have elected this nincompoop's

jail baby jail by kas on 02 May 2009

I believe getting tickets is the least. These are murderers and should be put away for good. Its suprising no bigwig got jailed for the death of 1000's of sikhs. Successive indian govt, everyone of them should be ashamed and share the blame but more should fall on Congress, they being the one who sponsored it.

Congress Party and India by Robert on 02 May 2009

HUH. WHO CARES ABOUT THE CONGRESS? SOME POLITICIANS WHO FOOL SOME POOR PEOPLE.THIS SHOWS THAT SOME HALF SLEEPING INDIA PEOPLE STILL BELEIVEING THAT CONGRESS STILL WORKING FOR INDIAN INDEPENDENCE FROM THE BRITISH. OTHERWISE THEY WOULD NOT HAVE VOTED FOR THIS ONE OF THE GREAT LOOTERS OF INDIA. TO CORRECT THESE, SRP TRIO MUST BE HANGED IN PUBLIC FOR LOOTING MILLIONS OF INDIANS THROUGHOUT THESE 6 DECADES. EVEN AFTER 62 YEARS OF CONGRESS RULE INDIA STILL HAVE MANY VILLAGES WITHOUT ROAD, SANITATION, EDUCATION. WORK, EVEN FOOD. HANG THESE GREAT SRP LOOTIING FAMILY IN THE PUBLIC PLACE AND MUST DISTRIBUTE THEIR PROPERTIES TO THE POOR PEOPLE. THE POOR MUST DESERVE THAT PROPERTIES. SORI FORGET TO TELL ABOUT SRP. S STANDS FOR SONIA MAINO, R STANDS FOR PRINCE RAHUL, AND P STANDS FOR PRINCESS PRIYANKA VADERA. HANG THEM ALL AND SAVE INDIA FROM THESE LOOTING FAMILY. SUPPORTERS PROPERTIES ALSO MUST BE CONSFISCATED AND DISTRIBUTED TO POOR PEOPLE

Secular? by simran on 02 May 2009

It was extremely disturbing to learn that the Congress issued tickets to Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar. One imagined that the apologies rendered for the ghastly 1984 riots came from the heart. Clearly that was a gimmick. Dropping them from the fray does not absolve anything. The Congress seemed to be the leading secular party. Now one wonders!

TICKETS FOR TYTLER AND SAJJAN by Sreenivasan E.C. on 02 May 2009

If it was to be decided by a leader like Ms. Sheila Dikshit who knows the pulses of people, the gentlemen in question wouldnt have received the party tickets to contest elections. They not only got the tickets but manipulated with CBI is a very good example which shows how the Congress Party is really working. Manipulations, not the people's wish is succeeding more in the party and this is the primary reason why more and more people are moving away from it. This is the main reason why there are lot of local parties coming up and fight the congress. Soniaji is unable to understand it or she is just helpless in discharging her duties as the inputs she receive are also manipulated. Now Congress has to reconcile to the fact that the golden days of the party is over. They have to now live with alliance politics. Trying to conquer the lost territories of UP and Bihar by contesting independently was a foolish step. Instead, the party should have kept the left over UPA intact and fought the election unitedly.

This shows Congress has lost its crdibility as an honest political party. by B S GANESH, BANGALORE on 02 May 2009

What Sheela dixit says is through her wisdom and not with prejudiced eye. But power-greedy Congress has decided to cheat the country and it electorate by protecting criminals. This shows Congress has lost its crdibility as an honest political party. This views is displayed by many incidents like protecting QUOTTARACHI and many criminals. Congress can be listed in the group of traitors of the country.B S GANESH, BANGALORE
