UPA and NDA didn't want to see a Dalit PM: Mayawati

New Delhi, July 22: Undeterred by the outcome of the trust vote, BSP chief Mayawati on Tuesday alleged the UPA and as well as the NDA of "conspiring" to prevent her from becoming the country's prime minister.

Talking to media soon after the UPA won the trust vote in the Lok Sabha, the Uttar Pradesh CM said, "UPA's victory is not due to their policies but a well thought-out political conspiracy by both the NDA and the UPA to check the BSP and prevent the daughter of a Dalit from becoming the prime minister of the country."

Alleging both the NDA and the UPA of entering into a conspiracy, she said NDA was responsible for the victory.

"Both feared BSP and prevented me from becoming the prime minister," the BSP chief said.

Though both the formations are seemingly different, they are united on this issue, she claimed.

"Had the NDA not helped the ruling coalition, it would not have been saved on the floor of the House," said Mayawati.

She referred to a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior BJP leader L K Advani in which the latter had expressed concern on the dwindling support base of the two main parties as "casteist and regional" parties are getting powerful.

"Both are united and can go to any extent to prevent the march of BSP," she said.

Referring to the cash being shown in the Lok Sabha, she alleged the UPA of horse trading and said: "This will go as a black day for Indian democracy."

"UPA has violated all norms and propriety. It has indulged in shameful incidents in Parliament, misused the CBI and conducted a media trial against me," Mayawati said.

The dalit leader said despite this, BSP managed to keep all its MPs together and none voted for the trust motion. "All 17 BSP MPs voted as per the whip issued to them while some of those from SP crossed over," she said, adding, "I am proud of my MPs".

Mayawati claimed that in the last week, her party has emerged as the fulcrum of national politics. "The Left also sees merit and finds that when BSP has given such good governance in the largest state of the country, it can be tried at the national level," she added.

"What BSP hoped to achieve in the next 6-7 years, it has managed to do in 6-7 days," she said, referring to the UNPA and her new positioning in national politics.

Mayawati said the victory of UPA would not help them as instead of tackling problems like inflation, they are entering into a nuclear deal. She claimed the deal was hardly of any use to the country and said the people of the country still do not know its contents and finer points.

On her future course of action, Mayawati said a meeting of the Left and constituents of the UNPA has been scheduled for Wednesday morning. "Our political course would be decided in the meeting," she added.
