New Delhi, April 4: As inflation touched a 39-month high, the Congress on Friday said the UPA government has launched an "unprecedented war on inflation" whose effects will be visible in a few weeks time.

"If you wait for just a few weeks more, the effects of the collective, cumulative impact of the unprecedented war on inflation which this government has declared will come forth,"AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said.

"Within a very short, proximate time period, the steps taken by the government will have an impact," he said.

Enlisting the steps taken by the government, he said forward trading on certain essential commodities was banned three years ago, import duty worth crores of rupees has been abolished on all edible oils across the board and measures have been taken in terms of opening up supply channels.

"Nobody is more concerned, more active, more harshly implementing of anti-inflation measures than the Congress party and the UPA government," he said as he criticised the BJP with shedding crocodile tears.

Claiming that the rate of inflation had touched six per cent during NDA rule, he said the current figure was "seasonal" and would come down shortly.
