The names of trainers and the places where meticulous training took place are also known to the government, the sources said.
The United States is believed to have even more evidence some of which it has shared with India, they said.
Chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, who was in Pakistan on Wednesday, is believed to have told his Pakistani interlocutors that Washington had enough evidence to show a Pakistani hand in the attack, the sources said.
Sources also refuse to believe that the Pakistani army did not have knowledge of the Mumbai operation given that ISI is controlled by it.
At the same time, sources do not believe that the civilian government in Pakistan is involved in the attack. In fact, one view is that the civilian government itself may be a target of the strike which may be used by the army to heighten tensions with India to return to power.
Washington has asked Pakistan to crackdown on Lashkar-e-Toiba, which now goes under the name of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, and to arrest its chief Hafeez Mohd Saeed because it has evidence of their involvement in the attack, the sources said.
The attack was planned, equipped and organised in Pakistan where the terrorists were trained and provided logistical support.
Contrary to the version that the terrorists used a hijacked Indian fishing boat to reach Mumbai after sailing from Karachi, the view is that much more sophisticated means were used.
The sources spoke of a clear disconnect between the Pakistani civilian government and the all-powerful military establishment, which is causing difficulties for India in dealing with the situation.
Islamabad's about-turn on sending the Director General of ISI to India is cited as an instance of this disconnect.
During a telephone conversation Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after the Mumbai attack, President Asif Zardari had referred to an earlier Pakistani proposal for a meeting between the ISI chief and the head of India's external intelligence agency, RAW.
Singh told Zardari that this was acceptable to India, after which Pakistan government had announced that the ISI head would travel to India.
After a post-midnight call on Zardari by Army chief Gen Ashfaque Kayani this decision was reversed with the President taking cover under a ‘miscommunication’ with the Indian Prime Minister.
Instead it was decided to depute a Director-level officer to India.
When the terror attack took place Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was in India and had consciously decided not to cut short his visit. However, the Indian government was told at 2.30 am that a special aircraft was being sent less than 4 hours later to take him back to Pakistan.
In what observers see as a clear message to the civilian government, the Pakistan army chief's plane was sent to Delhi to pick up Qureshi, who boarded the flight around 7 am.

Why are we only talking. We should believe in action - that is what the ISI does. Our politicians are just behaving like impotent people and going on only talking. US is also doing only lip service. What is the need of the hour is surgical strikes into Pak territory on the training camps and the the accused. We too have RAW - why we should not use it to eliminate the heads of terror. It is a far fetched dream ... I do not expect the politicians will let any such thing happen. We should learn from small countries like Isreal who would do anything to protect its people.

But later some patriot police officers investigated that it was Indian Military persons behind all this. Please note that all three top officers investigating in this case are killed in first 30 min of this horrible incident at 3 different locations. They were targeted. Why ISI would be so stupid to kill those men who are justifying them? India media says those terrorists were so much trained and intelligent and was in Mumbai since few months and suddenly they says that there were Pakistani cards, toffee wrappers, sim card etc was found in their pocket. Why a professionally trained person would carry his ID with him, unless he want to mislead the investigators.

Hi All,At a disturbed night with thoughts of my country India i pen these.How disturbing it has been for all these few days, it also explains that we all inner feeling of brother hood is still very bouyant, the blast the sacrifice the NSG and the politicians all these images flash by in thoughts. when can my India be free from all the worries we have.I have a plan, which i belive can bring an end to all the chaos, Consider we all vote intelligently and chose the most deserving candidate and send him to govern us.Change is very much needed, make mandatory voting, every one votes we need 100% voting to be done,if you dont vote the govt will penalise. make it very strict- all candidates and parties should have a very clear agenda,and if elected they have to full fill them, if not they have to resign in a specified period-NO Freedom for the MLA MP the all have to be accountable to Indian Citizens, Have lots to say for our country very less space -so good bye

They have to find some other way to tackle this but without a war bcz as i said before, the war would put the lives of billions of innocent Muslims as well as Hindus in big danger due to the use of atomic weapons.
i dont think that will be the right thing to attack Pakistan. as it will only create further destruction as both have got atomic weapons and if India does attack Pakistan, then i guess pak will have no option but to use the atomic weapons as thats what they were built for, for self defense [and it also has the right to use them in case of attack] and so there will be an atomic war only further killing millions of innocents. but if Pakistan is wiped from the face of the earth as a result of atomic war, it doesnt effect Muslim population but if india is wiped from the face of the earth, majority of hindu population will be wiped too. Im sure, they know about it and think before making this mistake of attacking Pakistan

There is no need for war on Pakistan. Thier Anti-Indian policies and the crores they spend on inciting terrorism in India, has brought them close to bankruptcy now. So if they continue with the same policies, they will certainly have to change thier policies.Despite tackling all these terrorism, India is still growing as an economy.Instead we should start strenthening our security forces and clean up the mess in politics by being more vigilant and demanding more from Politicians.Let us all be responsible citizens, by loving our contrymen first.
