Earlier the US was applying pressure tactics and now it has started ‘blackmailing’ India by threatening to block the possibilities of nuclear co-operation with Russia and other countries, he said while inaugurating the 20th state conference of the CPI.
"Senior American officials and diplomats like Nicholas Burns and Robert Gates had earlier visited India to exert pressure on the government for materialisation of the 123 Agreement. They are now threatening that if the nuclear deal was not signed, our deals with Russia and France would also be blocked," Bardhan said.
The Left would not allow the government to undermine the country's sovereignty, self-determination and self reliance by entering into a strategic partnership with the US, he said.
Dubbing the Union Budget as ‘election-oriented statistical jugglery’, he said the government was silent on how burning issues like price rise were going to be tackled.
Announcement of debt waiver would not help farmers greatly as it was done without enough preparation like creating a debt relief commission and new loan schemes at lower rates, he said.
Accusing the UPA Government of ignoring farmers for the last four years, he said 30 per cent of farmers in India were indebted to private money lenders and speculators.
On the possibilities of a third front, he said the Left was now aiming to give shape to a ‘third alternative’, based on pro-people programmes as opposed to the policies of the Congress and BJP.

Instead of blaming Americans of blackmail, the Leftist should ask their commrades in Russia and China, Can India sign similar deal with Russia or China without India approving any deal with IAEA and NSG. Leftist know too well that it cannot happen since Russia, China and USA are all members of NSG. Without USA support you cannot go anywhere. The Leftists are just barking dogs in need of attention.
The left should be more worried about their masters in Beijing. After all the chineese seem to be claiming 90,000 sqkm which is an integral part of India. India need the US as much as the US needs India. Nobody is doing charity in the big wide world. Nor are the russians doing any charity towards India. They are selling the same fighters to China, which they are selling to India. China the less ssaid the better. The main intentions of China are quite visible, it is to put a spanner in the Indian works. The US whatever their policies , are courageous enough to defend Democracy (i.e.Taiwan). I do not think Russia will probably even move a finger to intervene if China attacked India. Firstly , because Russia itself is not a true democracy. Secondly they will suddenly be raising their prices for all spares to make a fast buck. So the CPI should stop talking about blackmail , because that what they have been doing to India for the last four years. I hope the election committee bans this party from India.

Though I can't stand these communists and abhor their traitrous designs of exploitation and black-mail but its a rare event that they concern is more than true.So much US pressure and extreme interest in getting India into this deal,though the US claims and boosts that it was good for India makes everyone suspicious of their intentions.With recent hidden threats,timetables and warning India for not to enter any such deal with other country/countries is apparently act of black-mailing.CPI's criticism of the Union Budget is correct and justified.UPA has done great harm to the nation's security,unity and prosperity which starts from the lowest and poorest of the Nation.This Budget is wide open betrayal to appease few and will result into more inflation.Moreover in this budget there is very little interest (almost to zero)to real problems of Defence Forces.Nation's security is jeopardized and amicability is turning into animosity from all sides and the forces are too poorly equiped.The defence forces have become most uniterested profession for young people and most privates and officers are resigning or asking for pre-mature pensions and to blame is not only monetary interests but the politics.Shame to these treacherous vote-bank politicians and to those who feel joyous and find this Budget good just because they can save few thousand Rupees.Moreover worst is this that there is lot spoken but they don't have any definite plan/scheme to execute the propagated promises.
