Chicago An American television station here has offended the Hindu community after a sports commentary on its website used the term "weird" to describe their deities.

The commentary on an ice hockey match published on NBC Chicago website yesterday titled 'Why a 3-1 Blackhawks Loss Isn't So Bad', detailing Nashville Predators beating Chicago Blackhawks 3-1, said Predators were "swallowing up space like some weird Hindu god".

A Nevada-based Hindu community leader, in a statement, today said about one billion Hindus worldwide worshipped their deities almost on a daily basis and labelling them as "weird" was highly hurting their feelings.

He demanded immediate removal of inappropriate words from the website and publication of an apology.

He stressed these deities were highly revered in Hinduism and inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt devotees.

He said Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with a rich philosophical thought.

US does it again, TV channel calls Hindu deities 'weird' by Indian on 26 Jan 2012

US media and US government know by now what communities they can insult and easily get away with it. They also know that Indian Government is headed by someone who is not masculine and for the Indian President - lesser said the better.

RSS-HSS-VHP .... Weimer Republic? by Observer on 26 Jan 2012

This has started cropping up in all the Western Countries. Why are these Hindu radicals inviting the wraith of the Westerners? Why cant th Indian Secret Service keep them in check? In fact the arrest of this Lt colonel Purohit suggests radicalisation of the Indian Defence forces itself.... It is deeply disconcerting. If World War III is fought , i fear it will be on indian soil. Even the Soviets did not childishly criticize the portrayal of their KGB in Bond movies in a negative light. This militant Hinduism i think is going to come to a head with the western agencies.

Wierd US TV channels by Abhay Deshmukh on 26 Jan 2012

Hinduism was alive and flourishing long before the uncouth ancestors of the NBC channel had learnt to survive, even in a cave! To take any notice of what anyone with such a background would say, is to belittle Hinduism, rather than to uphold its values. As for understanding what is weird, one has to only browse through the various TV channels that are available for viewing in the U.S., each one weirder than the other!

Hinduism in Disarray by Ramanujam on 26 Jan 2012

Thousand years have passed the real concept of Hinduism has vanished. Now the majority are fanatical with their believes to an extend that there is no logic in their thinking. They come in droves and dirty the trains and the temple compound hoping somebody else will clean up their mess. Sabamala and Guruvayur has little to do with religion and a lot to do with fanaticism and greed. Look as though Hindu pray a lot to devils because nothing good is reflected after their pilgrimage. They dont even donate to beggers and become more selfish after their yatra. The idiotic state goverenment of Kerala is in fact making money out of this foolishness.
