"I know that our Ambassador (Tim Roemer) has briefed the government of India on the case, and we continue to follow the case," State Department Spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters in response to a question at his daily news briefing.
49-year-old Headley was arrested last month at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport as he prepared to board a flight to Philadelphia, intending to travel to Pakistan. FBI also arrested another person, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 48, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, in the case.
Kelly refused to divulge any further information about the case, stating that the issue is sub-judice.
"I'm not at liberty to divulge the details of the interrogation. It's an ongoing legal case, and it really is up to the Department of Justice .... that's really in their purview," he said.
"But I do know that we have briefed the Government of India on the broad parameters of the case," Kelly said.

American national Headley Coleman's arrest by the FBI and the unravelling of the Pak-based Lashkar-e-Toiba's plot to recruit American mercenaries to launch Mumbai-type attacks on Indian targets is a pointer to the fact that Pak-based Islamic radicals are bent upon doing anything to destroy India in their bid to spread their type of Islam. India will have to be on guard to bolster its defences against the conspiracies and machinations of the LeT and other anti-India organizations and not only stregthen and reinforce its intelligence agencies but also keep in constant touch with the intelligence agencies of friendly countries for intelligence sharing to thwart the nefarious designs of Islamic radicals. Any complacency can be deadly.
The Muslims in the US can expect a backlash. But what is the reaction of the Indian Govt? As usual, they will take an age to react.
Having arrested Headley Coleman and Hussain Rana the FBI definitely did good job but briefing India about their intentions to attack Indian Military College under/with the orders of LeT is not enough. With yesterday's shocking killing spree in Fort Hood by muslim Major, very much active on duty, has become a reason to worry of more such attacks even within US for the two caught have connections with many more fanatics working in/with Defence forces and other important Departments from where they get secret informations. There exists much greater net-work of Islamic Fanaticism in USA and Canada which may soon take the shape of new Talibans. Its now that the US Govt take strickest actions, even if it has to break the laws of liberty of human-rights etc,to check this fastest growing menace of radicalism. Its foolish and idiotic when the US thinks/feels and hopes to have friendship with muslims at home and abroad under persistent circumstances created by Iraq,Afghanistan and Palestian conflicts
