Washington As international concern grew over Pakistan signing a peace deal with a Taliban-linked group for enforcing Shariah law in the restive NWFP, including Swat Valley, the US has said it will seek a "fuller explanation" from Islamabad on the issue.

"We are discussing the issue. But that's about all I have for you at the moment. We'll wait and see what their fuller explanation is for us," State Department spokesperson Gordon Duguid told reporters in response to a question on this issue.

According to the peace deal, Pakistan has agreed to enforce Islamic law in the tribal areas in North West Frontier Province as part of a peace deal with the Taliban militants, who have announced a 10-day ceasefire.

"As I understand it, Islamic law is within the constitutional framework of Pakistan. So I don't know that that is particularly an issue for anyone outside of Pakistan to discuss, certainly not from this podium," Duguid said.

In the past, when former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf entered into a peace agreement with the militants in the tribal areas of the country bordering Afghanistan, the US at a later stage was very critical of such a pact. However, the agreement failed to yield the desired results.

Pak-Taliban peace (terror) pact by ramesh k on 18 Feb 2009

Dont seek explanation now! YOu just increase your donation (financial asssitance for terror) so that they can increase their capacity to make terror stikes in other countries, like India and U.S. and other parts of the world. Pakistan is the terror hub of the world, and knowing this, you double standard Americans continued to support them financially and logistically. That your utter dirty double standard of foreign policy, that you want pople to remain fighting so that you can sell your products, and at the same time act as 'world police'. Who in the world dont know Pak is the main terrorist hub of the world, and yet the Americans pretend to be unaware of this and continued to support this terrorist nation, and such financial assitance they are using for terror activities, even as claimed by the very american senators!

USA Hypocrisy by Hasan Abidi on 18 Feb 2009

US the greatest terrorist of the world is now showing its worry on its own creation- The Taliban which it has promoted and trained against USSR in Afghanistan. USA has been on killing spree of the muslims worldover and has been threatening countries like Iran whereas it has been supporting the Zionists and their atrocities inflicted on Palestinians. Many people here in India also regard US very much just because of its anti-muslim stances however they forget that the current danger India faces are the results of US backing to Taliban, Al-Qaida and other so called Jehadist it had created to establish its hegemoney. US is the most unreliable partner and thank God its economic prowess and military might is vanishing with every passing day and soon 'God Willing' it will see the same fate as that of USSR. Indian should keep itself away from US like China and keep progessing in its R
