White House Deputy Press Secretary Tony Fratto was asked in his briefing as to where the two sides stand on the accord given that Washington's pointsman for the deal, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns, is scheduled to depart the State Department by the end of March.
"We'll continue our cooperation in order to achieve that goal of getting the agreement completed," Fratto said.
Burns is stepping down from the Foreign Service at the end of March but US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that he will continue in the capacity of an Envoy on the civilian nuclear deal.
Political analysts here have cautioned that the deal is running out of time and that the ball is in India's court to move it along. The warning to the Indian political establishment has also been that the civilian nuclear arrangement has its best chances in a Bush Administration and the deal stands a very difficult time to get through a White House with a Democratic President and a fully Democrat-controlled Congress.

It baffles the Nationalists, the screwed up reasons used by the Reactionmaries and Idiosyncretics, are based on gaga and fantasy. All they are good at is peddling their mumbo jumbo and misleading misinformation. The Nuclear deal must be ratified as soon as possible, beacuse it will be immensely beneficail for longterm energy security, growth prospects, social and economic developments, allevating poverty, empowering the poor and the marginalised,so that all the villages of India are electrified and darkness removed. Finally for all to reap the benefits of the economic growth it is imperative that Nuclear energy is available to all, so that they can develop economically.
Indeed, it will solve middleeast crisis, world hunger and create heaven on earth.

I had read with interest few articles written by Arun Shouri on this issue. While objecting to the deal he had also urged that we must go ahead with out thorium based technology which will make us independent of intereference from other contries. However, since we are as yet not ready for the thorium based energy production there is no harm in accepting the deal. Unless of course the deal prevents us to call off any research undertaken by us on our own for thorium based technology. I think it is good deal and we must go ahead. BJP will also be well advised to support the present regime and let the public judge the double speak of LEFTISTS who seem to workng in the interest of CHINA.
Please look at the Hyde Act, specifically the clauses concerning that India has to report its reserves and usage of all fissile materials including Throrium as a means of verification.

Nuclear Deal should go ahead before the next administartion take charge in USA. Our stupid Left front, CPM and CPI should realise importance of this deal being finalised as soon as possible. They should not put any road block to the negotiations and final agreement. It will be unwise to delay the deal on home political reasons. Those who oppose the deal do not see the huge energy demand India need in the near future. All political parties should work together to achieve this. Country's interest should be kept foremost than the divisive politics.
