Amritsar, February 4 University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), USA, has urged Prof Dr Jai Rup Singh, Coordinator of Centre for Genetic Disorders and Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, to collaborate and act as co-investigator of International Research Ethics and Curriculum Development Award.

Prof Jai Rup Singh is the only Indian human geneticist who has been offered this prestigious assignment. Besides India, Russia and Mexico are also collaborating in this programme.

Dr Singh said the core aim of this programme was to educate and train foreign scientists for implementing principles of research ethics in their study.

He said one eligible student per year from each foreign Institute and subsequently four from each country would be invited to OUHSC, USA, during the four years under this programme.

He said a master’s programme in international bio-ethics education with a view to promote clinical and translational science would be introduced under this programme.

He said the candidate selected for this programme from GNDU would be sponsored by the OUHSC and he/she would spend 10-12 months there. OUHSC would also pay the expenses of tuition and stay for the entire period.

He added that then the student would go back to the home country and finish the remaining part of the curriculum.
