New Delhi, February 10: Noting that the ties between New Delhi and Washington were witnessing all-round growth, US Ambassador David Mulford has predicted the relationship to be the most important one that US has with any country.

"The way I look at it is that it has become enormously comprehensive. We see now that the relationship is expanding exponentially from business, health, finance education to a variety of other fields," Mulford said in an interview to Karan Thapar on CNN-IBN's Devil's Advocate programme.

Every facet of the relationship is becoming enormous, he said, adding "it will perhaps be the most important relationship United States has with any country."

Commenting on the change in the Indo-US relationship over the years, he said "for a lot of understandable reasons, it was driven primarily by the official bilateral relationship but today we have crossed all barriers".

"This is evident in the growing people-to-people conduct. A lot of factors reflect a similar pattern to our relationship," he added.

Mulford listed open skies policy, visit of President George Bush in 2006 and the lifting of visa restrictions as the important factors contributing towards better contact between the two countries.

"The economic engagement has also been enormous," he said.
