UT Admin invites expression of interest for Medicity project

Chandigarh, January 23 The Chandigarh Administration has invited the expression of interest for the medicity project, which is coming up at 45 acres of land in Raipur Khurd near Industrial Area Phase III.

The expression of interest has been invited from the companies or the consortiums, which have the capability of setting up world-class health infrastructure and running all the components of the medicity.

In the ambitious project, the administration has plans to have a superspeciality hospital-cum-recuperation centre, charity hospital and a nursing college, which provides free nursing education for 300 female nurses per year. Also, planned is a medical college, holistic health centre with various streams of medicines like ayurveda, homeopathy, siddha, unani, etc. A Centre for Research in Treatment of Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell Anaemia, Dental Hospital-cum-College and a Terminal Care Centre/Hospice are also on the list.

The administration is looking for a response from those companies or consortiums, which have a minimum of 200 bedded hospital running for at least one year. The expected annual turn over of the applicant should be over Rs 100 crore in the last financial year.

While inviting the interests, the administration is giving preference to those consortiums, which already have some tie-ups with the international healthcare operators. The last date to apply is February 15.

The administration, while preparing the concept of the medicity project has envisaged the quality health care of world standard for those who can afford and the health care for the poor through the charity hospital should co exist.

The components of the medical education and the alternate medicine systems have also been integrated in the project which is also expected to promote medical tourism in the city.
