A team of Chandigarh Police, which went to New Delhi last week, interrogated the arrested Delhi Police officers and procured details on the basis of which UT Police have identified four ASIs and two constables. The ASIs and constables had paid money to get through Chandigarh police recruitment exams held in the city recently.
All the suspects have been put under constant surveillance. While the ASIs have cleared their written tests, the constables, who belong to Sonepat district in Haryana, have cleared their physical test. The constables have also appeared in the written test, which was conducted by Chandigarh Police on Sunday.
Those arrested by Delhi Police include ASI Pale Ram, who is the driver of Railway Protection Force Director General, SI Ram Chander Gulia (Delhi Police) and Constable Rajesh (under training, Delhi Police).
Two main suspects in the case, Joginder Dahiya and Sanjay Rana, both residents of Nagina Lake Apartments in Paschim Vihar, New Delhi, are absconding. Dahiya was earlier arrested by Delhi Police in 1995 on charges of leaking CBI recruitment papers.
During a raid at ASI Pale Ram’s residence in New Delhi, Delhi Police had claimed that it had found a record register and Rs 20 lakh. Pale Ram had reportedly maintained a record of cash and gratifications which he had accepted from various candidates aspiring to get into Delhi Police and Chandigarh Police.
From the register, Chandigarh Police claimed to have collected information that a few of the candidates appearing for the police recruitment exam, had paid the three accused.
Though UT Police is yet to take action against the erring candidates, sources said an inquiry has been initiated.
Dinesh Bhatt, SSP (Operation & Training)-cum-Chairman, Selection Board, said, “The Special Crime Investigation Cell is inquiring into the matter. Yes, there are a couple of candidates, who have been identified by Special Cell, but it is yet being probed...”.
