Documents seized by the Income Tax during searches last Saturday show that Choudhary — he was found carrying Rs 6.14 lakh in Indian and foreign currencies in his bags at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport terminal on September 17 last year — had invested in three mines in South Africa (gold, uranium and coal), a coal mine in Liberia and another coal mine “near Thailand”.
Koda was Chief Minister from September 2006 to August 2008.
The pattern of ownership, the share held by Choudhary and the quantum of reserves in these mines are not known. But in a May 19, 2008 letter to the Managing Director of National Bank, Dubai, Choudhary, Managing Director of Dubai-based Blue Techno Project FZCO, transferred five lakh Dirham (one UAE Dirham is roughly Rs 12) from his current account 0153662065 to The Clean Energy Company (CEC), account number 0151595435.
A file seized by Income Tax and handed over to the Enforcement Directorate for scrutiny revealed that the Blue Techno Project FZCO had purchased “P T Gunung Bara Coal Mine, 66 km by road from the jetty and 340 km from jetty to anchorage point Muara Jawa, near Thailand” from CEC.
“Over 50 per cent work of road development is completed. Jetty/port construction is in progress. Commencement of production within six months. Excellent coal seams of thickness as high as seven metres. GCV 5300-5400 with sulphur less than one per cent,” states the same file. This mine, according to the file, is estimated to have 100 million tonnes of coal worth US $ 5,000,000,000.
Meanwhile, people who knew Choudhary — apart from a bungalow near Dimna Lake in Tatanagar, he is said to have flats and malls in Dubai — still remember how his father Jai Narayan used to cycle door-to-door, selling khaini (tobacco) to make ends meet. ¿After Choudhary came in contact with Kodaji through close aide Binod Sinha, lady luck smiled on them,¿ said his neighbour Ajay Kumar.
Koda, Choudhary and Sinha are among eight persons being probed by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Notices served on them by the ED require them to appear before the directorate.
Koda is said to have admitted during questioning that he knew Sinha and Choudhary but claimed he had no business deals with them. Likely to be discharged from the Apollo Hospital in Ranchi where he has been admitted, Koda maintained: ¿I am being implicated in a false case.¿

The time is ripe when we as part of civil society shall make sure that the politicians like madhu koda don't get scot free. First the trail of money shall be fully established within time bound frame of three months and all funds shall be seized, the companies in which illegal funds invested their management must be immediately handed over to honest persons choosen from society like in satyam case. The accused persons shall be put in jail and the bail provisions must be very strict. To balance on both sides the case must be decided by courts in a time bound manner so that the accused also get justice and exercises his right of defence enshrined in our constitution.
Corruption among politicians is apparently everywhere in the globe, recent scams in UK, where politicians misused their allowances and benifits and some fraudalent cases were on limelight indeed a big issue in UK.However,the plethora of corruption among politicians in India and especially in Jharkhand is in massive scale,awful, disgraceful and bizzare.Jharkand is mentioned now as most corrupt place in India and all other global corruptions look miniscule with this immense scale with Koda case.What a parasite?A tribal leader plundering poor tribals,what a shame?so many people live without food and shelter and poor tribals lack access to basic needs. The vision for making Jharkhand which created on sweat, it was envisioned as a properous state with equitable, society and well being of common people.Unfortunately,this politicians are worst who plunders poor mans money and bread.I think the central government should set up independent inquiry and have strong legislations
ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THAT MADHU KODA WILL BE ULTIMATELY HELD RESPONSIBLE AND SPEND THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN JAIL IS LIVING IN A FOOL'S PARADISE. WHEELS OF JUSTICE MOVE BUT THE WHEELS OF POLITICS MOVE MUCH MORE FORCEFULLY AND FASTER. ALL THE OTHER POLITICIANS INVOLVED IN THE SCAM ARE MAKING SURE THAT THEIR NAMES DON'T APPEAR IN THE CASE AND ARE TOO BUSY PLANNING THE EXONERATION OF KODA. ULTIMATELY SOME SMALL BABU WILL PAY FOR THE CRIME WHILE THE OTHER BIG FISH WILL GO AROUND SWIMMINGLY!
There are many Kodas in politics. The politicians' black money in real estate abroad, starting with Dubai, and in banks around the world, make Koda look a pygmy.
Mr. Koda, goes sick with the shock of being caught.This X - CM of Jharkhand has millions invested abroad.On the other hand side there is so much poverty prevailing in the state.All funds are used by these SCAMMERS to decorate their drawing rooms and for purchasing jewellery sets for their spouse. All his property should be distributed among the poor people.Infact the Central government should come out with a proposal of distributing black money of these corrupt officals.It will be very helpful and even better than NREGA. For KODA- he is a KOORA or JUNK of Jharkhand.He looks sick and should be sent to the mental asylum.

In India politicians have the power and they are throughly corrupt and characterless. So who will clean the system and the country? The list of corrupt political crooks is endless. What can you expect in a country where the President herself has a tainted past? Good luck and keep trying to survive in this corrupt country.

problem..in India,there not just one corrupt Madhu Coda...there to many corrupt politicians as example Punjab chief minister Parkash singh Badal oweing $ billions properity...if we check his backround he had 65 acer land...so from where that money comes...he had hand behind blue star (golden temple attack). Bjp and Parkash singh Badal motivated PM Indra Gandhi for attack...and stupid lady could not understand akali leaders poltics...thousands of lost lives...now all Akali leaders blaming congress ...but congress did nothing.

Accounts of all the past & existing politians should be checked. The one who get caught like Koda / Raju may get punished, but what about others.

As you said, He is a former swyamsevak and not a current one.He became corrupt when he joined hands with Congress and Lalu. He wanted to do the same as Congress-walas but got caught. He is not as experienced as congies that way he is caught.

It is not a alarming the wealth these politicians seize during their tenure in the cabinet.. Just wondering if Koda within just two years could amass such wealth imagine the politicians who are still in power since 20-30 years...Even in the little state kerala a mere CPI party secretary from Pinarayi seems to have properties and money worth 50 Million Indian Rupees
Everytime i read an article regarding Koda it makes my blood boil.. how disgusting can u get then this??.. Let us set a precedent for all the many politicians to come and Give Koda the strictest of punishments.
Mr Koda is unlucky not to have the backing of a powerful political party, unlike Mr Raja who is smiling snugly and snooking a thumb at India's poor people, as he has the support of DMK and Congress. The assets of the ever obliging governor Mr Sibte Rizvi should also be interesting. After all,, if his aide can amass a fortune, why should he have been deprived?

the news of this horrific affair is shame for the people who elected Koda it doesnot matter which party he belongs. many of the ill gotten wealth probly in near family members name(Iam sure aboutit) the invetgating net should be wide and inclusive of near and distant family members.whichdepartment is responsible in over seing money being spent ? do they have a hand in this fraud or they looked the other waywhen this crime was being committed. what about other politician one name comes to mind is mayawathi who was once reported to be muti croropathi( Which she calimed all are donation by people.
