New Delhi, March 6 Three women, including a Class XI student, committed suicide in the Capital in the last 24 hours.

In first incident, Class XI student Manju (16) committed suicide on Wednesday evening. A student of the Government Senior Secondary School in Jahangirpuri in north west Delhi, she was depressed as she was not good at studies and she was also not being able to perform well in her ongoing final exams. “She was not very good at studies and scored less marks. Her father did not want to study after Class X but she wanted to study further and could not concentrate,” said a police officer.

Manju used her chunni to hang herself from the ceiling at her home, around 8.15 pm last evening. Her father, Ramlal, who came down from the first floor, where other family members were having dinner, noticed her body. She was rushed to the nearby Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital but was declared brought dead by doctors there. Her body was later sent for postmortem. No suicide note was recovered.

Ramlal, works as a labour contractor at construction sites, told the police she had a Sanskrit exam yesterday and had not performed well in it. She was the eldest among two sisters and two brothers.

In the second incident, a first year BA Pass student of the SPM College, Delhi University, hanged herself at her Rohini Sector 3 home this morning. Dolly (21) was also reportedly depressed, as she was not good at studies. Dolly reportedly locked herself inside her room before using the ceiling fan to hang herself.

“She reportedly failed in her first year on an earlier occasion and could not clear all papers every time, causing her to be depressed,” said a police officer. Her father, Mohan Lal, reportedly works in the petroleum ministry. No suicide note was recovered.

In the third incident, newly married Sadhna Singh (23) hanged herself at her home in Zohripur in Karawal Nagar. She was married five months ago but was staying with her parents for the last four months, after she came to know her husband was ‘mentally disturbed’.

Her parents work as casual labourers and the family belongs to Jaunpur in UP.
