Before the match, Kumble was not 100 per cent fit...
"unfit Kumble is letting the team down", Vengsarkar said in an interview to News24.
"...If Kumble could not bowl more overs then he should have not played, Vengsarkar said and added that the skipper should have earlier come clean to the selectors on his fitness.
Vengsarkar also criticised Kumble for not allowing Virender Sehwag to bowl more overs.

It is most unfortunate that the media attention on all channels was on Sachin's world record on most runs and not on whether Indian will save the test or not. Unfortunately it is this media hype which eggs them on to remain in the game and strive for personal glory rather than for the teams sake. The painful lingering career of Kapil Dev toward the end is an example.
Kumble is a disaster. Poor performance and poor captaincy nearly caused India's defeat and saved by bad light and rain. He should honourably stepdown and allow Piyush Chowla to play.
How fickle minded people are and ignorent of the game of cricket.Every body wants the fab.4 plus Kumble to go,let us see who is their to fit in their shoes,well I cant see five young players to replace this lot.Then who scored the runs Dravid,Gungauly,Sachin,Laxman,what more every body wants.You can only replace these players one at a time not all the five at the same time.Look how Aust. has suffered,with 2 of the recently retired players in the side they would have beaten the Indians.India has done very well considering the state of the pitch.In my openion those 5 are stil the best players in the country.
Pure Crap. No body is indespensible. Kick all of them (pathetic fives)out and replace them with whatever talent we have. India will be no worse than it is now. I guarantee it.

Kumble, NOT honest? So IS Sachin, Dravid et al. So WAS Ravi Shastri, Gavaskar, Kapil et al., Money, fame are be all,end all! No Human values!!, Seniors like Venky laid this path, successors walking on it, present lot of juniors will follow suit. Ongoing affair! Stray- Vengsarkar’s crying foul. So be it. Kumble’s ,Sachin’s have to play, fit or not-fit. They have records to chase(!), however long it takes.They MUST be in records-galore! Media and amnestic-public will not take note they were done at snail’s pace (A dubious-record!). Kumble’s/ Sachin’s – Do Not give up ! Shun remarks of Vengsarkar’s. (Which you all are so adept at, your cricketing prowess long gone). You know how potent BCCI is – they could not discover Kumble’s shoulder issues. [Or BCCI thought players will declare fitness voluntarily! .so naïve? ]. Juniors have no ‘voice’, that they are waiting in the wings. Everything on your side. Take your time, 10,20 tests.. but achieve those mile-stones,for your personalsake!
Very well said. Hats off to you. Crawl on kumble within next 10 years when people will carry you on stretcher in the field you will still play. there will be a few batsman who will miss you hitting for six and then you will get a few more wicket. Murali and warne beware. Indians play for personal records. Who cares if India lose. after all India has been losing since long.
Where was Mr. Vengsarkar when during his tenure an unfit Tendulkar went to Srilanka and pulled out midway through the series. Same thing happened when vengsarkar selected an unfit Tendulkar for the Irani Trophy, and as usual Tendulkar pulled out. While Vengsarkar passes unsolicited comment son Ganguly and Kumble what doeshe have to say about Tendulkar.
As you said, Tendulakr pulled out of those matches as against to Kumble played and let the team down. Don't you find any difference between these two situation? You must be a die hard fan of Kumble who gave more than 150 runs without a wicket. He was touted as a match winner when Chawala bundled OZ out by taking 5 wickets.This guy was getting the wickets of only tailenders and now he is not getting even that too. Fit or not Kumble is an absolute liability on the team.
Tendulkar plays only for the record books. He is still a few runs short of Lara's record. Once he breaks the record hopefully he will retire for ever.
I fully endorse Vengsarkars views on Kumbles fitness and his failure to use Shewag as a regular bowler having gone in to this test with only 4 bowlers. I had stated after Aust. first innings that he should have used Shewag more and also used Tendulkar and Ganguly. Compare this with how effectively Ponting used his 6 bowling options. Very poor captaincy from Kumble.
Vengy was a great cricketer in his days. But, he had turned out to be a very very poor president of the Selection Committee. He has almost always put his own financial and other interests ahead of the Indian team interests. Thank God he is no longer the arbiter! Let us hope we get a much better deal from Krish.
When his reflex failed, Adam Gilchrist, a superstar and a certainity then, announced his retirement atonce. Kumble twice Missed return catches, not 100% fit, a dull captain, but still wants to continue at the cost of youngsters.Meanwhile Mohali does not need 2 spinners, a tour to NZ next year doesnot need a second spinner. So at the max he can play 5 more tests. He is spoiling his repupation by doing so.
Very true I really do not understand why the Fab 4 and Kumbe do not understand that their time is over and as the saying goes they should leave when every body asks why now instead of continuing till the time when all say why not. Can somebody please make them understand that they are really trying the patience of cricket loving people of India,please GO GO!
He has possibly more business to comment than you. Any commoner can see that Kumle should call it quit.He was a good player and has played his inning.Mr Krish stop being paroacial.Grow up to be good person.
I think older lot is not physically as well as mentally fit to play and they cashing on their big names and milking the system.
Vengsarkar as a selector was no good. It will be better if he joins politics, probably his mentor's party NCP.
