"The Bill has been considered at several levels by the Group of Ministers (GoM). The Cabinet has approved the text of the Bill," Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters in Delhi about the decision of the Cabinet which met on Friday night.
Observing that it was an important promise to the children as education would become a fundamental right, he said that it would be legally enforceable duty of the Centre and the states to provide free and compulsory education.
Chidambaram said that the HRD Ministry would release the text of the Bill after consulting the Election Commission in view of the assembly polls in some states.
The GoM, entrusted with the task of scrutinising the Bill, had cleared the draft legislation early this month without diluting the content including some of the contentious provisions like 25 per cent reservation in private schools for disadvantaged children from the neighbourhood at the entry level.
Other key provisions in the Bill are no donation or capitation or interviewing the child or parents as part of a screening procedure.
The Right to Education Bill is the enabling legislation to notify the 86th Constitutional amendment, which gives every child between the age of 6 and 14 years the right to free and compulsory education. It was passed by Parliament in December 2002.

Commendable job by the government , but still the question prevails how far its going to be successful in the direction which promises free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14. as many earlier programmes this step do not fails to fullfill its motive. So this time not just passing the bill , the government should esure that this bill works and for the government should see that proper machinery should be there for monitoring and who should be held accountable for the programme .so that the dream of Right to Education Bill, which promises free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14. is actually achieved.
the right to free eduation bill though a commendable work on the part of the government ,but still just by passing a bill won't suffice as many other eariler progammes in direction have been failed to deliver fruitful result, so government should ensure that along with the bill there should be proper mechanism for monitoring as well who shold be held accountable for the programme to be successful.
The Education rights bill is inadequate. Govt should make it compulsory for every citizen to complete 10 years of education and appear for 10th grade public exam. Of course passing should be compulsary only for any one who wants to contest any public office small or big.

travel agents will not get commission on sale aof air tickets from today. why agents should get 11 per cent commission? nowadays tickets can be booked through internet and travel agents are notr required. WHY 9 PER CENT COMMISIOIN WAS PAID ON FUEL PRICE ALSO? EVERY NOW AND THEN FUEL PRICE INCREASED AND TRAVEL AGENTS WERE GETTING MORE AND MORE [AS COMMISSION] SIMPLY BY DOING NOTHING. it is good to see that at long last civil aviation top bosses realised that agents were making a fool out of airlines.
This is why India is such a backward country.How can we put even more reservations and expect anything else? And another thing - the best schools always interview kids and parents - that is critical to deciding if they will fit in. Why does the government have to regulate everything. The government couldn't create good government schools, and people are begginning to compare the private schools with government schools. So instead of improving the government schools they want to pull down private schools.Why dont they just de-regulate schools and allow more schools to be started and give everyone a voucher to attend any school which will accept them?
