Lucknow, June 06 To help students get better jobs, the Lucknow University is developing its online database from the next academic session.

The university will use the information submitted by students in their counselling form and will post it on the proposed placement website. The database will include students’ family profile, educational qualification, marks in graduation, post-graduation, specialised courses and work experience.

“The university receives thousands of letters from various institutes and government departments enquiring about the details of students, when they apply for admission or jobs there. Online information of the students will make it easier both for the university and the information seeker,” Prof Nishi Pandey, Dean Students’ Welfare, LU, said.

“Each student will be given an identity number which will be posted on the university’s placement website. The students will also be registered at the upcoming Placement and Guidance Bureau (PGB) on the campus. The state government has already sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the PGB,” Pandey said.

The university also seeks to enhance communication with the students. “We will remain in touch with our students until they get the job. Their database will be regularly updated with the details of what they are doing after leaving the university,” Pandey said.

In the database, students will be categorised according to their streams and specialisation. If a placement agency, for instance, has vacancies in the chemical industry, it can get the list of eligible candidates by accessing the university website.

In the first phase, the university will prepare a database of its own students. Later, profiles of students of over 70 affiliated colleges will also be made online.
