Located near Miranda House and Khalsa College, college goers for more than 30 years have found his shop a hot dating point. Discussing politics while digging into hot maggi was another favourite activity. “So famous was his ‘maggi point’ that it became an institution in itself,” says Anushree Mujumdar, a former student of Miranda House, who use to be a regular visitor. “I remember the times when I would sit alone at his joint and a smile of his would relax me,” she says.
Preeti Gautam, a student of third year at Miranda says she will miss the man. “It is not like I went to him regularly. But after seeing him everyday for three years, I have naturally got attached,” she says.
Uncle Tom sold maggi that varied from plain to the spicy. The plain ones came for Rs 12 while the spicier ones, with onions and coriander, was priced at Rs 20. Wearing a moustache and always dressed in white, he was a stark contrast from the colourful orange umbrella that acted as his shelter.
