New Delhi Terming the Indian market as largely untapped in terms of the spread of interactive white boards, SMART launched V280 board in New Delhi. Terry Wason, Area Manager for CEE, Russia and India, SMART Technologies launching the new product maintained that this launch signifies the growing interest of the company in the Indian market.

Wason who holds a Master of Business Administration, joined SMART Technologies in April 2006 as the International Channel Manager and presently looking after CEE, Russia and SE Asia; and is responsible for managing sales channels for these regions while having a main focus on the Indian market.

Talking about the market strategies of SMART in India, Wason stated that with the penetration levels of interactive white boards standing a way less than 1% in the country, India has to go a long way in this regard. “Since we a have a market share of 53.2% worldwide, we are also optimistic about the Indian market which remains largely untapped.

When asked about the reason behind the low spread of interactive boards in India, despite having a huge education sector, Wason blamed it on the high costs of the boards which cannot be afforded by the larger component of the Indian education sector. “Cost of these interactive white boards is a big challenge in the Indian market. V280 is one such product which can beat the cost challenge to a great extent,” Wason clarifies.

Talking about the efficiency of interactive whiteboards in the education sector, Wason maintained that the newly launched products have been provided with specific features, keeping in mind the requirements in education. These products have also been enabled with key features such as the provision of pictures, animation which has made them an attractive option for educators. “Initially when we introduced the product, it was meant as a presentation tool mostly used in the corporate sector. But, after sometime, with due innovation and awareness the education sector too accepted it wholeheartedly,” Wason asserted.
