New Delhi, January 15 The Delhi High Court on Tuesday received appeals filed by two former Uphaar cinema hall staffers sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment for culpable homicide.

In their appeals, R K Sharma and N S Chopra sought suspension of their sentences and alleged that the trial court had failed to appreciate evidence arrayed in favour of the accused.

Sharma's counsel further revealed that his client was "critically ill" and required to be on bail to receive urgent medical attention.

Justice H R Mlahotra, who is hearing the appeals, directed the Medical Superintendent of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where Sharma is currently undergoing treatment, to submit his medical records.

The Bench further issued notice to the CBI while posting the matter for Thursday.

A trial court had on November 20, 2007, convicted all the 12 accused under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for causing death of 59 moviegoers .
