The event has been divided into two parts - Air India Cup and Air India Plate - and will be held at various prominent venues in the city and suburbs.
The Air India Cup, will be a straight knockout affair between country’s premier public sector companies, viz. Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Airport Authority of India, Food Corporation of India, Bharat Sanchar Nigam and hosts Air India A and B.
The defending championships Indian Airlines, after being merged with Air India, will now be playing as Air-India A. The Air India Plate event will have 11 teams.
The matches in both these events will be 40 overs each. The tournament carries cash prizes also. The winners of the Air India Cup will get Rs. 50,000, while the runners-up will get the half of winners’ prize.
Apart from the cash prizes, there will also be individual prizes for best batsmen, best bowler, best fielder,best allrounder and the man-of-the-tournament. The championships will start off with the Air India Plate matches from Jan. 11 with the final slated on January 15 at the Police Gymkhana.
The Air India Cup ties will start from January 14 and the final will be played on January 17 at the Police Gymkhana. Former India captain and now chairman of the BCCI selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar will be the chief guest on the final day.
