NEW DELHI, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM On the day Governor R S Gavai sought the opinion of the Kerala cabinet on the CBI request for sanction to prosecute CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC Lavalin case, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, in open defiance of the politburo line that the investigating agency’s move was “politically-motivated”, said he would not criticise the CBI. He also said he had informed the politburo that he would not be participating in the Nava Kerala Yatra, a statewide political tour by Vijayan which began Monday.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Achuthanandan said the politburo might have had reasons to believe that the case against Vijayan was “politically motivated” but as a person occupying a constitutional post, he would not go against the court or the CBI.

“It (the Lavalin case) was a decision of the Kerala High Court, its division bench to order a CBI probe... the High Court ordered the probe, set the timeline and monitored it... if I say anything about it (the probe report), it will amount to questioning or challenging the court. As a person who was sworn in to protect the Constitution, I cannot criticise the court.” He said he had informed CPM general secretary Prakash Karat about his stand. He also said he would be attending the politburo meeting on February 14.

In Thiruvananthapuram, Governor Gavai’s office confirmed that government opinion had been sought on the CBI request for sanction to prosecute Vijayan who was state power minister when a deal was signed with Lavalin in 1997 for the renovation of three power projects.

“The Governor’s office has moved the letter to the cabinet today. But we have not set any deadline for the government to reply,”said K Ajithkumar, private secretary to the Governor.

Achuthanandan should fight CORRUPT MAARXISTS by Ravi on 04 Feb 2009

Achuthanandan should start the battle against his comrades in the NORTH who might be the direct beneficiaries of Vijayan's corrupt practices. Now the comrades are licking the wounds. By shielding their corrupt comrade Maarxists have lost moral right to question the corruptions in the other parties and offices. It is now proved that Maarxists all these years had been wearing masks of "Purity in public lives"; whereas in truth it was sham. Nandigram proved that they are murderers and killers of worst kind. Sinking economy of WB proves that they are looters and swindlers. Siding with China and mum on Arunachal speaks about their anti-national affiliations. Govt. should constitute a high level enquiry committee to looks into the fund they receive from China for carrying out naxalite activities and propaganda against India. It is sad that most of the media owned by MNCs except mainstreams are pitching behind this antinational elements who have spoiled the moral and social fabric of India

CPM, CBI by Varind on 04 Feb 2009

CPM is like a double edged sword. When their party members are involved in alleged corruption they become blunt and when politicans from other parties are involved in corruption CPM becomes sharp. The current state of affairs under UPA are the gift of CPM and no one can deny this fact. If CPM Polit bureau member is not involved in any corruption case then why they are scared from the CBI inquiry. The same CBI was good when CPM was supporting UPA and now the same CBI has become stooge of the ruling UPA!!!

Keep Pinaray out till he is cleared by RV on 04 Feb 2009

Pinarayi should be kept out from PolitBuro and Secretary post to uphold the confidence of all comrades and to keep the red flag fluttering high. Karat, Please act and save CPM.

CHIEF by VINCY THOMAS on 04 Feb 2009

If is ironical that the CHIEF of CPM from Kerala became implicated by CBI in the Lavalin case involving an amount of Rs. 3000 millions. Why Mr. Prakash Karat has to mortgage his concience in order to protect him? Is he morally right in doing so? I think VS as CM has been doing a fine job to contain corruption but not his party chief in Kerala. There is the difference between them. If Mr. Vijayan is not shown the door out from the post of Secretary, it is not far when the grassroot workers will do that. PRAKASH by the meaning is 'LIGHT' But the manner of his responses to this issue reflects that he is treading iin dark corridors of corruption. When the party advocate for corruption free governance, and polit buro members encourage DYFI to conduct prosecution of corrupt officials (taking bribes in Rs. hundreds), how can PRAKASH hide his head in the LAVALIN case involving Rs. 3000 million?? Will CPM die if Vijayan exits from the scene? I congratulate VS in his bold initiatives

Congress propose slowing CBI in return of post-poll alliance again. by Thomas Varghese on 04 Feb 2009

If the inquiry is expanded, CBI will have to seal the AKG Bhavan in New Delhi and AKG Center in Thiruvananthapuram, with all the Politbureau members in jail. A major share of the loot was donated by Vijayan to set up the Corporate CPM. This is exactly the reason, why Vijayan says, I am not supposed to comment; the State Committee, the Central Committee and Politbureau will comment and deal with the CBI case. Achuthanandan knows a hard fact that, Vijayan is guilty as he pocketed a good amount of the loot. Achuthanandan is corruptionless and honest. His fight requires wholehearted support. What is surprising is that Congress has come forward with a statement that they are not averse to a post-poll alliance with the CPM / Left. This is obviously, an indirect advise to CPM that if you agree this, we can influence the CBI, just as we do with Election Commission. We can expect an announcement from Prakash Karat soon.

You are right VS, true communist cannot be corrupt by KVSKumar on 04 Feb 2009

Kudos to you VS. The people are with you. Of late Vijayan has been acting like a tyrant with anyone and everyone opposing his line of capi-communism being expelled from the party, as a result there are large number of dissidents in the state. If the CPM got 19 out of 20 MPs in the last election, it was largely due to the personal charisma and untainted personality of VS. Who in Vijayans camp can claim even 1/10th of that charisma? The PB would be better advised to keep Pinarayi at bay till he is cleared (if it so happens) by the courts. The PB has been dilly-dallying with Vijayan when it allowed him to dictate to VS who all should be his cabinet members, even the home portfolio was taken away from h im at he behest of Vijayan. The people are confident that not only development will come to the state but many cases of sex rackets and corruptions would be prooved if the PB gives VS the true powers that any CM should have. Tragically he is surrounded by lieutenants of Pinarayi.

Gimmick... by Amit Purohit on 04 Feb 2009

Expell him from Politbureau and remove him form CM will be the expected line from Crooked, thugs, chauvinists, liars, anti nationals, corrupt, fraud communists. I nthey take a clue that if removed whatsoever control they have to protect their brother commie P Vijayan. Or this old fox Achute Nandan will speak soemhting else and do something opposite - exact commie style

Gimmick... by Ajith on 04 Feb 2009

Mr Purohit mind your words. The CM is a very honourable person. Whatever you have said here applies to Mr Vijayan. Where is the paragon of virtues Mr Karat now? When other people are 'implicated' he immediately starts shouting for removal, while when his comrade in arms Vijayan is 'implicated' he has suddenly decided it is politics. Why do not the CPM fight this case politically if they have nothing to lose.

ABOLISH CORRUPTION FROM KERALA by Haridas on 04 Feb 2009

SNC Lavalin case is not politically motivated. Why CPM fear CBI or Court. If there is majority in the party, leader can any kind of corruption. There is no backbone to CPM's Central Leader to take action against Pinarayi Vijayan who destroyed about Rs. 350 Crores of Kerala Government and who is leading luxurious life like Millionairs. His son study in Foreign Country for MBA and hsi daughter study in a Private Medical College. who is born in middle class family, what is the sources of money. Pinarayi Vijayan should co-operate with public moralities. There is equal right to every in India so he should be ready to prosecution.

kEEP IT UP, VS by ANIYAN on 04 Feb 2009
