Vaiko had at a public meeting in Chennai on Tuesday said a separate Tamil Eelam under the leadership of LTTE chief Prabhakaran would come into existence soon in Sri Lanka.
"LTTE and Sri Lankan Tamils could not be separated. Though we are against any violence, we should differentiate between violence and right", he said.
"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had assured me no military aid would be supplied to Sri Lanka, had gone back on his word," he alleged.
Vaiko said, "if the need arises, I will be the first man to take up arms in support of Sri Lankan Tamils. I will gather youths all over the country for this purpose".
The MDMK presidium chairman, M Kannappan, had told the meeting that time would come to demand for a separate Tamil Nadu. In that meeting, a two-hour film on Sri Lankan army's alleged atrocities against Tamils was screened.
In a statement on Wednesday, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa had demanded that all LTTE supporters be booked.
Tamil Nadu government's decision to arrest Vaiko was to make it clear that ruling DMK's support was only for the suffering Sri Lankan Tamils and not for LTTE.
Vaiko, now an ally of Jayalalithaa, was detained under POTA by her government in 2004 on his arrival from the United States after he had made a pro-LTTE speech at a public meeting in Tirumangalam in Madurai.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi had condemned Vaiko's arrest at that time.
This is the second time that Vaiko has been arrested for supporting the banned group, the earlier occasion being during the previous AIADMK government when he was held under POTA.
Vaiko was arrested under the Unlawful Prevention Activities Act, police said.
He was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
Vaiko said soon after his arrest that his party was for India's sovereignty. At the same time, it could not allow the Centre to provide arms and ammunition and logistics support to Sri Lankan government 'to perpetuate war against Tamils’.

The arrest of Mr. Vaiko is a political issue not law and order. The government is partial in dealing issues like this. If supporting Tamils is crime, it is unforunate and the congress will feel sorry for this after the coming parliamentary election. Tamil Nadu congress play double standard in the issue of Tamils in Tamil Nadu and Srilanka.
Why Ms Jayalalitha still has allainance with MDMK. She says that she doesnt support LTTE and MDMK openly accepted that they support the banded organization. These are political games. These peoples dont worry about our peoples in our state rather than they try to prove that they are helping tamil peoples in Srilanka. Why they bother about other countries peoples is it they speak the same language that we speak. We have to remember that we are Indians and then quote your state. They took away our great PM Hounarable PM Rajiv. We should not forgot that. Any one who support them should be jailed with no mercy. Even I think Congress forgive everything about what happened in 1991. We lost a great leader that too in our state. For that atleast shut our mouth and keep quite for not saving our great leader.
One articles indicated that Srilankan Legislature denied Tamils of jobs. How come a a Former LTTE cdre who laid down arms and contested an election become the Chief Minister of The Eastern Province. The second in command of Prabhakaran became a member of Parliament. Former leader of armed movement Douglus Devananda a Minister in the Parliament. The leader of Tamil National Alliance is now a Minister in the parliament.Two members of Tamil Congress(Indian Tamil workers Union) are now mInisters. How come Tamils have no jobs.Can't these ministers employ their supportes. All those alegations are nonesense. People who write these articles knoe that these fabricated stories.
Dr. Ramadas is one of the fire brand politicians of Tamil Nad. His son is Dr. Anbumani Ramadas is the honourable Union Minister of Health.In an interview given in Delhi on 21st October 2008, Dr. Ramadas has said that (1) LTTE is not a terrorist organisation, but it is a liberation movement. An alliance leader openly challenges the stand of the nation and supports the killers of India’s Prime Minister. Dr.Ramadas also said in the same interview that (2) No one could stop the establishment of a separate Tamil nation called Tamil Elam. This stand is also against the wishes of the majority Indians and the policies of the UPA. The Indian Govt stand is that they will not allow Sri Lanka to be partitioned, though the demand of the Tamils can be accommodated by giving full autonomy to Tamil majority areas.It is difficult to understand why the Prime Minster and the Indian Govt. tolerates this non-sense from a tiny little political party which hates others on caste basis
What has LTTE given to tamils over last 25yrs. Only piles of misery. Kidnapped and sacrificed more than 10,000 kids from arms of screeming parents, only 10% of tamil kids sit for exams, allows tamils to open mouth only to eat, despite billions collected not a grain of rice or a panadol for tamils, EVEN STOLEN TSUNAMI money from tamils who lost every thing, taken away all known human rights from tamils and reduced them to puppets at gun point, 50,000 tamils have fled to the south unable to bear barbarism, killed many thousands of tamils to include political opponents/interllectuals/ priests/ teaches etc for opposing the stupidity of a grade 8 drop out manic depressive 'leader'. No wonder when Richard Boucher, US undersecretary said that 'LTTE has brought only misery to tamils' How true it is!
Its hard to understand why our politicians (especially the minor ones) always talk about violance in order to get popular. Perhaps there is some problem with Indian public which get attracted to violent leaders?? Indian public need to do retrospective so that we dont have leaders who try to gain popularity through violent approach and breaking of law. My beloved countrymen, please shun such leaders !!
We have got the prize for supporting them earlier, by losing our beloved leader Rajiv Gandhi. The politicians and others who are shedding crocodile tears first work for Tamilians welfare here. in the name of Tamil the partys in Tamilnadu only promoted there familys. tamilians here must act first to find a good leader to rule them and develope the sociiety.
Very true, ban political parties that openly support LTTE and Prabakaran.We can consider helping Tamils to achieve autotomy for jaffna Tamils, if Prabaharan is brought to India to face Trial on Rajiv's brutal murder and if LTTE elects a different leader who is not like Prabakaran.Or Let Prabakaran come forward and openly accept his guilt and apologise to the family of Rajiv and the people of India.People like Vaiko are trying to increase their vote bank by jumping on to a colourful and terrorist LTTE band wagon. This event clearly highlights the double standards for the media. If Maharashtrains raise their voice to protect interests of their people, they are dubbed as "Terrorists". This is when Maharashtra has given a number of freedom fighters (Tilak, Savarkar, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, etc.) social activists (Ambedkar, Baba Amte etc.) and exceptional people in other walks of life (probably other than business which is their weak point) who always believed in the idea Indian nation. Right from the times of Shivaji, who fought to build Indian nation, till date, ordinary Maharashtrians always believes that their destiniy is with India. This is unlike Tamilians who demanded separate Tamil nation since independence, unlike Sikh who asked for Khalistan, unlike north east states who want to break away. We don't want to break away but to be simply respected in our country, in our state and in our cities. Is this too much to ask for? If Tamilians do such things, there is not a whimper in media, why?
What make's you feel that you are not respected in you own country ? Why are you so centered around Maharashtra ? What the Thackeray’s are doing can never be justified, the same way as what Viako is doing. Do not get carried away with the stupid provocations of MNS or Shiv Sena. What is the difference between Vaiko and the Kashmiri separatists? Kashmiri separatists on both side of the border are alleging atrocities by government forces, and calling the terrorists freedom fighters. Vaiko is also saying that a separate Tamil state will be established in Sri Lanka under LTTE chief Prabhakaran. The same Prabhakaran, who has waged war against India, is head of LTTE, terrorist organization banned by India and is responsible for the murder of our former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi. Vaiko is championing the cause of terrorists and is prepared to take up arms for their cause. Mr. Vaiko has been rightly arrested and should be tried for anti national activities. Why should Sri Lanka tolerate any interference from us and why should we ask Sri Lanka to go easy on terrorists. Mr. Vaiko in the interest of some votes is championing the cause of LTTE, but we have not heard much from him, when minorities and Dalits have been targeted in his state.
The problem is not a new one. There have always been petty politicians demanding India's intervention here or there, sometimes on sillier planks. If the situation is reversed, will India agree that Nagalim, Khalistan, Bodoland or Azad Kashmir demands be met just because our neighbours support them? I hope that vaiko is given his just desserts and placed under a lock who's key is thrown away.

All these people supporting LTTE are forgetting what LTTE stands for. A terrorist group is a terrorist group; period! Politicians in Tamil Nadu are using emotions to manipulate the ignorant. Alas, the readers here are not ignorant, just short sighted.If India ever supports LTTE, we wont be any different from the Pakis. I think a politicaly unstable SL will lead to insurgency in the otherwise calm southern India.
Vaiko is a good for nothing politician without a base in TN. His only contribution is his support for LTTE
Mr. Vaiko has reason to be more concern about Tamils in sri Lanka. Sri Lankan army in the name of war against LTTE, they are attacking civilians. It is their intention to slowly destroy all ethnic Tamils from sri Lanka. In this backdrop if India really helps Sri Lankan army with intelligence, logistics support as alleged, then it is deplorable.
When Indians fought for independence British considered their actions as treasonous. This included Gandhi, Tilak, Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sarojini Naidu and many other heroes. Think about it.
Dear Rajan,Please dont forget that British came from outside and started ruling unsuspeccting Indians. The same is not the case with Srilanka. Tamilians migrated from TamilNadu and now they are fighting for a seperate state in the country of their refuge.Also, the times are different now, its illogical to compare the present with 17th century.

Do we have only lunatic trouble makers among the TN Politicians. Why are they interfiering into another Sovereign Countries issue. I don't buy that bull of not to interfere with other countrie's issue. We are inhabitants of a global village and even issues seemingly distant will have re percussions in our life. But the involvement should be constructive, for example Norway's efforts, rather that supplying money and lending support to terrorism.
Vaiko's arrest is highly unfair and is basically due to oppurtunitic politics of Mr.karunanidhi.If the real reason is the so called inflammatory speech,lots of speeches by the cine directors at Rameshwaram were more aggresive.They were not even touched.The so called intellectuals always try to suppress the real reason of the struggle in Srilanka viz.suppression of basic equal right to the minority by the majority Singaleese for several decades which prompted this armed struggle.some of their actions deserve to be condemned but we should not lose focus on the larger picture ie planned genocide of Tamils.Armed stuggle against it is not a terrorism but it is the struggle for the basic human rights.Also,Vaiko has only said that he will be ready to fight against the Srilankan army and against India.His honest faith in national integerity is much better than so many selfish politicians who are infact real enemies of our beloved country by looting the public money for their own family

LTTEs are freedom fighters. They did commit a mistake of killing Rajiv Gandhi, however Indra Gandhi and Gandi was also assassinated. I don't understand how you consider the whole LTTE as a extremist. They are basically a government for Tamil people in Sri Lanka. LTTE is not as bad as western/Sinhala media portrays it. This is the crucial time when India must step in solve the problem. India is considered super power of South Asia but has done nothing for Tamil people’s right to self-determinate in Sri Lanka.

They had gone to the extent of demanding a separate Tamil Nadu," Karunanidhi should have arrested Director Seeman, Bharathiraja etc., before arresting Vaiko. Tamil Nadu Government had not taken any action against them and nobody can expect action against them as long as Karunanidhi, who had written poems condoling the death of LTTE leaders, continued to be the Chief Minister.
Sri Lankan tamils are ethnic indians. They were denied citizenship both by India and Sri Lanka after independence from British. They were unfortunate people caught in the wrong place at that time. ONLY SINHALESE legilstation denied them jobs. The Buddhist majority in Sri Lanka did injustice to them. This is being corrected by pressure from LTTE.
Most of the Tamils are now in Colombo doing business and enjoying more facilities and previledges than Sinhalese and Muslims. They are protected from any forms of threats in Colombo by Sinhalese and Muslims. Some of them take all these previledges to support LTTE and target innocent civilians by helping them to blast Claymore bombs.If they are so discriminated how can they leave claymore bombs in buses and trains and get off safely.Who is caring for the innocent victims of these blasts.If LTTE needs a separate state do not try to kill innocent people. Go far elctions and try to win an election in their own homeland.Former LTTE fighter who has laid down arms is now a chief minister. The Second in command of Prabhakaran is now a Parlimentary member.He will soon be a powerful minister. Who knows if Prabhakaran did not kill Rajiv Ghandi he would have been the Prime MInister of Srilanka. His place now will go to Ananada SangariJavanathan
I dont think we need terrorists to destroy our country when we have our politicians who do that job better. Vaiko is not the only one being singled out here. Look around you and with your hand on your heart is there any politician in this country that you can trust? I can't find a single one.
