New Delhi The pneumonic infection of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, is under control and he is doing well without ventilator support, a senior doctor said on Monday.

"He is fully conscious and breathing on his own. The infection is under control. We are waiting for the chest to clear now. We have kept him under observation," Dr Sampath Kumar, chief of Cardio Thoracic Vascular Sciences Department at the hospital, said.

Kumar said Vajpayee is doing well without the respiratory support. "We have removed the ventilator support and all the basic parameters are normal," he said.

The 84-year-old veteran BJP leader was admitted to AIIMS on February 3 following chest infection. He was later diagnosed with pneumonia and put on ventilator support.
