More than 400 protesters defied curfew, which has been imposed in the valley since Sunday, gathered in Baramulla town and raised slogans against Zardari for his remarks on Kashmiri militants in an interview to the Wall Street Journal recently, official sources said.
The agitators burnt an effigy of the Pakistani president before dispersing peacefully, they said.
This is for the first time that an effigy of a Pakistani ruler has been set ablaze in Kashmir valley since April 1979.
Widespread protests were held in Kashmir valley against the then Chief Martial Law Administrator of Pakistan General Ziaul Haq for his decision to hang former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Dear friends on the net,May be some of you can help me understand this: Why the killing of innocent Hindus and pillaging of their religious places is considered to be secular in the name of Kashmiriyat, while when Hindus talk about reviving the glory of their culture, the media calls them communal.Mahatma Gandhi said every one who lives in India is a Hindu. Hindus have different ways of worshipping, but they all believe in God.His concept of Ram Rajya wasn't a Hindu Saudi Arabia or Christian Vatican, but a welfare state where the interests of the subjects defined the interests of the rulers.Welcome, any comments
i appreciate his message in calling terrorists as terrorists .. He is a brave man!!
It seems Mr. Zardari is a Natural leader and not a politician. It needs lot of guts to go against the trend and he has done it. Though time will prove, I still think Pakistan will be lucky if this leader could lead her to future successes. Pakistan's economy, education and social integration needs a leader like Zardari who can pull Pakistan from the clutches of Mullaha and lead to a vibrant, respectable nation. Good Job Zardari, Keep it up.
The people in the valley are ruining their own lives and the future of their children. They have nothing constructive to offer - all they do is marches, bandhs, protests, boycotts, and burning effigies of anyone who challenges their delusion of 'freedom fighing'. When so many Muslims have done well in India, why is it that Kashmiri Muslims remain obsessed with the past and cannot think of anything positive for the future?
Indian army and security allowed 400 people to defy the curfew. It is a shame ,cowardly, and unbelievable.
truth is always unpalatable for few. what Mr jardari has said is an historical statement and tomes only will say how correct he was. he needs to be appreciated by both Indians and pakistani people for the bold and correct statement. the statesman in him has said this not the politician. the entire Indian subcontinent stands to benefit.
Sindhi is rising and Zardari has full backing of Sindhi people and God Father America..The fact of the matter is that Pakistan is in cross Road, and any mistake that could lead to Pakistan's disintegration. Zardari is trying hard to unite the nation.
Sorry, but I really doubt the mental status of Mr. Sardari. If he mean what he said, he is going to be the next aim of the bullets I am afraid. Pakistanis won't change at any cost. They neither evolve. (Evolved Pakistanis excuse :-))
