Vani bus mishap: 39 dead

Mumbai, January 21 *Kalpana Milind Patil (32)A home-maker, her husband runs a tea and vada pav stall in Gandhinagar, Worli. Her neighbour Kiran Thokkar (17) said: “She was a very calm person and a regular devotee of the nearby Sai Baba temple. And every time we’d visit, she’d ask if we wanted tea and snacks.” Thokkar said the neighbours were uncertain whether her son Krishna (7) and daughter Rani (9) survived.

*Pradeep Gaikwad (26)A security guard at an under-construction building near Doordarshan building in Worli. “He was like any other ambitious youth, coming from a remote village to the big city. He came here from Latur two years ago,” said Satish More (28), a cable operator and Gaikwad's friend. “Subah jaata tha, baarah ghante ki duty ke baad aata th. Kya bigada tha usne kisika? (He’d leave in the morning and return after a 12-hour shift. Why did he deserve this fate?)” More asked.

*Narayan Wasam (55)A tailor and social worker, he went to Shirdi to thank God for many blessings, including his son’s just-opened dispensary. “He went to thank God for making his son a doctor. Unfortunately, he could not see his son practicing and couldn't see his daughter’s baby either,” said Sahadev Bhoga, a friend. Wasam’s wife Vijaya Wasam (45) and her mother Rajava Jatla (70) also died.

*Jitendra Kamble,The resident of Bharat Nagar, Worli was the only child in the family. He used to play in the local music band.

*Saya Sahebrao Biramne (35) and her son Santosh Sahebrao Biramne (14)Both residents of Worli, their bodies are being taken to Satara, their native place. When Saya’s older son Ganesh (20) spoke to The Indian Express from the Nashik Civil Hospital, he repeatedly asked for help in locating his mother and younger brother. “The last thing I remember is seeing my brother by my side,” Ganesh said.
