For vegetarians, eating out in Delhi is the stuff nightmares are made of, with a meat-laden menu including a handful of shoots and leaves like a clumsy afterthought. However, if you take an elevator to the fourth floor of TDI Mall in Rajouri, you will be pleasantly surprised with the efforts The Terrace has taken in offering greens along with gosht. The 110-cover space is spread atop the mall and boasts a garden lounge. Draped in sparkling-white tapestry that ruffles in the wind and adorned with mirrors, the outdoor seating is impressively landscaped. Inside is a 45-cover diner furnished in beige, with summery yellow blinds and coffee-tanned wooden walls.

Must-try
Kurkuri kakdi ki chaat (Rs 89) may not be the most inviting name on the menu but trust the waiter who will obsequiously suggest you try it. A platter brings in golden slivers of lotus stems, dipped in cornflour and fried just so that every bite is a delicious crackle. The vegetarian kebab platter (Rs 299) too is delightful, with two pieces each of four types of kebabs, with corn kebab taking the lead. It is anyday a good alternative to mutton shammi, with a blend of similar spices. For the main course, go for paneer khurchan (Rs 209), where cottage cheese is almost kneaded into a thick saffron gravy with tomatoes and onion. Vegetable jalfrezi (Rs 199), a leftover from the Raj era that has made it to every menu, is quite well done here, with the veggies holding their own in the spice assault. Motiya biryani (Rs 199), cooked with black chickpeas and cottage cheese, is also refreshingly different. Nahari gosht (Rs 269) offers a juicy bite for carnivores but the gravy disappoints.

Give a miss
The Goan fish curry (Rs 349), which is not reminiscent of anything Goan. The fish is well cooked but the gravy is overdone with spices. Also, skip galouti kebab (Rs 279). You can sample better stuff in any of the shacks in Old Delhi.
