Vigilance nabs Civil Hospital doctor for graft

Patiala, January 3 Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed Arvind Verma, medical officer at Civil Hospital, Samana, on graft charges. According to the VB officials, the accused was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from one Kashmir Singh, a resident of Kamaspur village near Samana.

The accused had allegedly sought Rs 10,000 from the complainant, Kashmir Singh, for treating and operating upon his son Kuldeep Singh’s broken leg.

The accused had allegedly first taken Rs 2,000 from the complainant and later another Rs 4,000, which the complainant had arranged by selling off his buffalo.

Patiala Vigilance DSP Gurpal Singh nabbed the accused while accepting the remaining Rs 4,000 from the complainant today. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused and further investigations are on in the case. A search of the accused doctor’s house is also on.
