Vintage cars, singers and more at Rose Festival

Chandigarh, February 21 A plethora of cultural and artistic events, a display of vintage cars and leading Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan’s ‘nite’ will be part of the three-day Rose Festival, which starts from Friday. With the roses in full bloom at Asia’s largest Rose Garden, the festival is expected to attract as many as 2.5 lakh visitors this year. Much to the satisfaction of the purists, the festival would not have the commercial stalls. But the stalls of the sponsors and the NGOs would be allowed to be put up at the Leisure Valley facing the Government Museum and Art Gallery at Sector 10.

“The stalls by CITCO, Unitech, Veta Milk Products and NGOs are set up at Leisure Valley. Camel rides and the major event of the three day extravaganza, the performance by Sunidhi Chouhan on the concluding day of the festival would be organised in Leisure Valley,” said an official. Among the other attractions, North Zone Cultural Centre artists would perform on the forenoon and afternoon of February 22 and 23 at Rose Garden, while a folk dance competition is also lined up for the same day at 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Qwaali muqabla, aantakshri programme, Punjabi Pop nite, street play and other cultural events are planned for the festival. The winners of the best gardens at the residential and public places would also be honoured at the festival. UT Administrator, S.F. Rodrigues will inaugurate the festival tomorrow.
