Chandigarh, March 18 T P S Phoolka, Joint Commissioner-I, Municipal Corporation, inspected the site in Burail Village, where construction of two commercial buildings was being carried out without the approval of building plans. Challans were issued to the violators.

A Planning Consultant, District Town Planner and other staff members accompanied Phulka. He issued a warning to the violators to follow the rules laid down for construction in villages by the administration. The maximum height of a building allowed will be 34 ft i.e. ground floor plus two floors and this permissible height shall exclude parapet, water tanker and any other structure allowed with the permission of the competent authority.

Rules state that open balconies cannot exceed 3 ft in width and will be subject to maximum of two-third width in the centre of the building.

The building also needs to be planned to ensure compliance with the fire safety Act, in accordance with the provisions laid down in the national building code on fire protection.
