New Delhi, February 12: With violence following Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's campaign against North Indians spreading to new areas, additional Central paramilitary forces were rushed to the state to control the situation.

"The Home Ministry is providing central forces to the state government as requested by it. Rapid Action Force (RAF) units are already positioned in Mumbai," a senior MHA official said.

He said the Centre was in ‘close and continuous touch’ with the state government.

The Home Ministry has advised Maharashtra to make all necessary arrangements to ensure that peace was maintained all over the state and activities of mischief-mongers were effectively checked, he added.

Violence spread to Nashik where MNS activists attacked fruit vendors hailing from North India on Tuesday. Reports said that Pune, Aurangabad, Nanded, Latur and Amravati too witnessed some trouble.

Incidents of violence targeting north Indians in Mumbai started on February 3 after MNS leader Raj Thackeray launched a verbal tirade against the community.

Biharis under attack by Prakash Singh on 14 Feb 2008

"Why men he (Indians) doth bestride the nerrow world like a cllossol and we (Biharis) petty men walk under his huge legs to find our selves dishonorable graves, men are some times are master of their fates the foult dear friend is not in our stars but in our selves that we are underlings".Thrown out from the south, killed in the east (Assam). We are abused in the west as "puribias" and as well as abused by the CM Dixhit. Enough is enough how can we call our self Indian. We were Bihari , WE are Bihari and we will be Bihari all the time. Wanted a MAHATMA who can act like Gandhi, who will fight for us and will lead to Independence so that we can be a free men and there will be no Indians to hit us from the back. No voilance but a peace movement. This is our dream.

Voilence in Nasik Piune by Arunkumar on 13 Feb 2008

Mahrastra police playing politics specially NCP leader Patil who is home minister. RAj should be arrested immediately. He has given now enough time to arrange further attacks on citizen of India who migrated to Mahrastra for work. Involving the Abu Azmi along with Raj is another p0olitics palyed by Patil, Home minister. He should be sacked. Not arresting RAj for volilence is injust. If any Muslim is invloved they would have arrested immediately. That is what they are after Abu Azmi.

Who Am I? Indian or .... by Atul on 13 Feb 2008

Entire episode of MNS driven agitation against 'North' Indians sends a signal to whole world, How united are we?. If we cannot allow brothers from our own country to earn their livelihood in their own land, shame on us. Those who believe that they are being kind to their society by kicking few poor families out of the state need to introspect. They need to think who are being tortured? If I am not allowed to live freely in my own country "I am not proud to be an Indian".

Good opportunity for locals to contemplate their failure by aasif zardari on 13 Feb 2008

Raj T knows that he needs this 'agitation' to gather pace for his party to survive. This time it is North Indians. Next it might be Muslims, South Indians or some other linguistic or religious minority. The agitators and their backers should take this opporyunity think why they as a group have failed in Mumbai? Why is it that outsiders were able to succeed in businesses in which the locals failed? Then take steps to remedy the situation? Do notake out your frustration on the NI vegetable Vendor who has a hand to mouth existence.

Remove your lense of bias by Rajan on 13 Feb 2008

Outsiders could succeed in Mumbai because the government of Maharashtra encouraged business by pro business policies, provided safe environment, and decent infrastructure while other states turned to socialism. If it is that easy to do business anywhere why don’t these businessmen do business in Bihar and UP? I am sure they will have good time doing business in goonda filled Bihar and UP where businessmen get abducted and killed every day. Shows some balls and take your business somewhere else.

Buzz off Marathi haters by Rajan on 13 Feb 2008

Where were these Marathi haters, the so called nationalist when Kannadigas threatened poor immigrants and did not allow them to take railway exam? Read this you fools.http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Railway_recruitment_row_in_Karnataka/articleshow/2687025.cmsWhere were these nationalists when innocent Sikhs were massacred? The culprits still roam free and no one raises an eye brow.

Divisive politics in Maharashtra by Utpal Bhattacharya on 13 Feb 2008

I was raised and educated in Maharashtra, specifically in Mumbai. Though my parents come from different parts of India. I always considered Mumbai as my home. But with these divisive politics going on. I feel very insecure about visiting Mumbai or Maharashtra anymore. As far as investing or buying property in Maharashtra is concerned that will very likely never happen in future. Definitely I do not have intention of being called as an outsider in a place where I have invested my money.

A suicidal agitation ! by Sharad C. Misra on 13 Feb 2008

What is happening in Maharashtra shows the utter incompetence of the State and Central Government. The nation is getting irreversibly divided and both are helplessly watching ! Let the MNS activists who are vested with a little intelligence sit back and reflect on the consequences of their action of driving out the North Indians. With 55,000 taxis going off the road, security services in residential and public buildings withdrawn, vegetable and milk vendors striking work life in Mumbai would come to a grinding halt. The entire building industry which employs unskilled labor from Bihar and UP would come to a standstill. It is impossible that the 'sons of the soil' would be able to fill this vacuum. Let it be remembered that in a market-driven economy only the fittest would survive in the long run, whether it be in industry, agriculture or low-paid jobs in the service sector. In the interest of Maharashtra itself the movement against North Indians would prove not only counterproductive but positively suicidal.

Very Good by Anshuman on 13 Feb 2008

Why dont u fittest people and hardworking people go back to bihar and UP and work hard there and make it better than Mumbai?

Shame on the CM and PM by coolvyakti on 13 Feb 2008

It is sickening that the CM of Maharashtra is such a mouse that he waited so many days before even bringing charges against goons like Raj. I feel like puking to know that he is socializing with the PC of Mumbai - while directing his "army" of goondas to intimidate innocent civilians. All this while our sardarjee, simply watches in mute mode, while he takes the blessings of Soniaji. Do we need to remind these idiots that India does have a constitution and these dudes took an oath to uphold the same? Their first responsibility is to protect the lives and livelihoods of people. They have failed miserably and should be dragged to the courts and made to either resign their posts or pay fines for not upholding what they signed up for when they took the oath.

POLICE AND THAKREYS ARE MILIBHAGAT by rajababu on 13 Feb 2008

Hatred against Marathi’s by Rajshree on 13 Feb 2008

People who are criticizing Raj are themselves spreading hatred against Marathi community and are racist. Just look at the hate messages against Marathi’s on this forum. It is shame that Indian express allows such racist comments to go unchecked. It is abeting these racists by not censoring their hate messages.

Marathis - time you spoke up!! by coolvyakti on 13 Feb 2008

It is time for Marathis to stand up and be counted and tell Raj that he does not represent them and should stop speaking for all Marathis. Raj is a cheap politician just like his uncle - time to put a stop to dirty politics. All citizens of India should have the right to settle anywhere and follow whatever customs they want, so far as it is not impinging on anyone else's rights.

Thackeray does NOT speak for marathis. by shree on 13 Feb 2008

I AM A MARATHI - and ashamed of this IDIOT THACKERAY! He does not speak for maharastrians. ARREST HIM. put him in jail and stop the violence.

But you are welcome to other states. by Abhishek Kumar on 13 Feb 2008

dear, You need not worry about maharastrian outside maharastra. Nothing will happen to them as people outside Maharastra are not like you( I am not talking about all Maratha but especially u).You still have right to go outside your state and work. I don't want to know what you think but you are always welcome to other states and earn for your living.

Stop your sheep mentality. by coolvyakti on 13 Feb 2008

Stop supporting idiotic demented people like Raj - unless you fall into the same category yourself. In which case all your education has been a waste. Unless everyone opposes this goondaism - the future is not very bright for anyone else but these useless politicians. You have no damn right to call anyone an "outsider" or to ask them to "get out". All Indian citizens have the same right - just as yourself. Use your brains and stop following these idiotic politicians like "sheep".
