Srinagar protest

Srinagar Major protests broke out in several localities here today after the body of a missing youth was recovered, with agitators torching a police vehicle and damaging another, prompting security personnel to open fire.

Shortly after police recovered the body of undergraduate student Asrar Mushtaq Dar, missing for the last six days, from Rainawari locality, groups of youth took to the streets, threw stones and enforced a strike in most parts of the city.

The body was found with the throat slit, officials said.

The protestors stopped a police vehicle at Budshah Chowk and torched it, the officials said, adding the occupants of the vehicle were beaten up by the agitators.

The protestors also damaged a police vehicle at Pratap Park area, they said. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC is already in force in the city.

Policemen, who were already deployed in strength in the area, opened fire to chase away the stone-pelting agitators but there was no report of any casualty, they said.

The protests broke out soon after the news about the recovery of the body of Dar reached Maisuma locality, where he hails from.

Policemen were engaged by groups of youths in street clashes in the area. While agitators pelted stones, policemen retaliated by lobbing of tear gas shells and lathi-charge.

The situation is tense, the officials said.

In the newspaper of Bangalore today there is a report that two bodies were found dead with throats slit in a Maruti Van in the outskirts of Bangalore. There was no protest,no violent rallies and no section 144. Protesters did not burn police vehicles nor disturb the daily work schedules nor declare 3 days long Bandh! Public knows it is the job of the police to under take investigation and therefore leave it to them to do the nedful. In kashmir it is the separatists who are stoking the fire of violent protests.Just put them behind bar. Things will return to normalcy. It is not the kid gloves of Democracy which are required to control separatists but hard lines of control.Kashmiris may now know from newspaper reports of today that no less than Mr Zardari has declared terrorists were home grown in pakistan for short term gains. Kashmiris must grow up now at least in 2009 and civil society must see through this pakistan game and douse the fire before it engulfs their children.

Don't Compare Kashmir with Banglore, because here security forces are doing these crimes the whome we believe in investigating?

Kashmiris should be kicking the Paki millitants and seperatists but rather than pelting stones at security. This is foolish, the Paki terrorists are using innocent Kashmiris.

Treating the Seperatists and the Valley protestors with a kid glove is perceived as a sign of weakness which has emboldened the people currently living in Kashmir. The Central Government must crush this insurrection with a heavy hand and bring Kashmir back from the brink. If Pakistan and US want to talk about Kashmir then do so by all means but confine your dicsussions to POK only because that is the only disputed terrotory. As regards any referendum to be held on Kashmir, we Indians welcome such a referendun .But let us be very clear. The referendum must be held to ask us Indians whether we should allow the people who currently living in Kashmir to continue to do so or should we throw them out ofIndia.Only these two points should be pursued by India at all national and international forums.

Shutup you thikal this very attitusde of people like you has draged this issue to this situation. You are the same people who praised kashmiris when they came out to vote. To us their is no difference between terrorists and men in uniform who kill rape and murder . And u should also condemn it. Any where killing an innocent can not be justified. These are not just accusitions if your Govt. thinks like that let them probe these cases by international human rights groups. But how can you do that you dont even have courage to allow them to visit kashmir. You are loosing more and more ground in Kahmiri and thanks to the men in uniform.

Shame by Shahbaz on 08 Jul 2009

Fruits of Indian bloody democracy.

Why are the protestors venting their anger against the police and security forces? They should be protesting against Pak-backed militants and separatists who are behind the atrocities in Kashmir. The intention of Pak-backed militants and separatists is to cause mayhem in Kashmir and accuse the security forces of human rights violations and India of oppression.
