Chandigarh, January 10 The mystery behind the death of Rekha (30), a resident of Banur, who was found dead in her room on October 22 last year, seems to deepen with the viscera report confirming presence of poison in her blood. Her husband Upesh Kumar, who was arrested on charges of abetment of suicide on the complaint lodged by Rekha’s parents, has now been booked on charges of dowry-death, after Punjab police recently received the viscera-report.

While Upesh Kumar and his family members described the entire case as a case of suicide by hanging; the presence of poison indicates that she was first poisoned and later strangled.

According to Rekha’s father Sukhwant Ram, there were strangulation marks around Rekha’s neck and the dupatta, which was shown tied to the ceiling fan, was not so strong as to support Rekha’s weight. “She was poisoned and then strangled to death,” Ram alleged.

Upesh Kumar is presently in judicial custody and facing trial for his wife’s death.
