Vishal bags three golds, Ambala is best team

New Delhi, March 19 The Ambala division won the overall team title in the 55th Northern Railway athletics championships that concluded here today at Karnail Singh Stadium. Athletes from Ambala dominated the men’s and women’s track and field event in the three-day competition.

Ambala’s Sunita, who had established a new meet record of 10.79 m in the women’s triple jump event, bagged the best athlete trophy. She beat the previous record of 10 m set by Pankit Lakra in 1995.

Amarjeet Singh of Ferozepur division was adjudged the best male athlete. Amarjeet too erased the old meet record in the men’s triple jump event by jumping a distance of 15.70m breaking the 15.60m mark by Maha Singh in 2004. Maha Singh, however, managed to win gold in the long jump and settled for a silver medal in the triple jump event.

Delhi’s Vishal Saxena and Rupinder Kaur of Ferozepur Division became the fastest runners of the meet by winning the 100m dash in the men’s and women’s section, respectively. Saxena went on to win in the 200m and 400m races. Rupinder bagged a gold in 200m event, and silver medals in the 400m and 800m races.
