A campaign to protest against female foeticide and to mark International Women’s Week was organised by the CSR in Punjabi Bagh. The main aim of this rally is to mobilise the local community towards protecting the girl child. This protest rally is a part of the ‘Meri Shakti, Meri Beti’ (MSMB) campaign that was launched in 2007 by the CSR and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Director of CSR Dr Ranjana Kumari said, “According to the MCD figures of 2006-7, Narela, Punjabi Bagh and Najafgarh have the lowest sex ratio. This is why the MSMB campaign is concentrating exclusively on these areas.”

Kumari blamed both the doctors and the people who go in for sex-determination for the high prevalence of female foeticide in these areas. She said that the MSMB campaign is a local watchdog community that has been keeping a track on the activities of people who indulge in the practice of sex-determination.

According to a CSR spokesperson, the MSMB project aims at conducting a situational analysis on the action taken by the existing agencies on the issue in context of the PCPNDT Act and to evaluate IEC material.

The PCPNDT Act prohibits sex selection by any means, before or after conception.
