The drive will start from July 7, according to Amar Lama, member of the central committee of the GJM.
“We warn the GJM not to use number plates with GL instead of those with WB. If they do that we will involve the central government and take necessary action,” Sports and Transport Minister Subhas Chakrabarty said today.
But the Morcha leaders say they will go ahead with the plan.
“We are determined to start the drive from July 7. I have heard already some vehicles are using number plates with GL on them though I myself have not seen one such number plate,” Amar Lama told The Indian Express.
He also said that the next course of the agitation for a separate state of Gorkhaland would be decided in the next meeting of GJM central committee.
“We will sit in one or two days and decide on our next course of action,” Lama added.
State Home Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti and Inspector General, police, law and order, Raj Kanojia, meanwhile reached Siliguri where they held several meetings with district administration officials to review the security situation in the Hills.
“We made an assessment of the law and order situation in the entire north Bengal and also examined how many more police personnel are needed here,” BL Meena, Divisional Commissioner, Jalpaiguri Range, told The Indian Express.
