WBUT set to become largest varsity in state

Kolkata, June 9 The West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), set up in 2001, will soon become the largest varsity of the state with more colleges applying for its affiliation.

“We have received applications from 14 engineering colleges and 27 non-AICTE approved colleges in the state,” said WBUT registrar Rafiqul Islam. With the colleges getting a nod for the affiliation the number of colleges under the university will be 168.

Currently, 127 colleges are affiliated to the University of which 56 are engineering colleges offering both AICTE and non-AICTE approved courses. As many as 70, 000 students are enrolled in the University.

Other than offering courses in Engineering and Management, the university provides courses in hospitality, travel and tourism, computer application.

Also, this year, the university has received a request for starting post-graduate and graduate courses in filmmaking and animation.
