“Some portion of the site’s wall caved in today at two places. Since it is raining in Singur for the past few days, the soil has become loose, which caused the collapse. Repair work is being undertaken,” said Kajol Bandopadhyay, ADM (development), Hooghly district. “The workis going on at the project site barring some interruptions. We are also working hard to repair the drainage system,” the ADM added.
According to locals, nearly 300 feet of the boundary wall near Khaserbheri collapsed after a loud thud in the wee hours. This was soon followed by a wall collapse near the Joymollah village, five km from the first site. Here around 50 feet of the wall collapsed.
The project is nearing completion with the deadline for the trial run of the small car scheduled for October this year. Work at the various departments like paint shop, engine shop and others has been completed. Waterlogging has not been a major hindrance for the work so far, but if rains continue, it may stall the operations at the site, sources said.
