Pune, January 24 Children suffering from life-threatening illnesses like cancer, HIV, thalassaemia and juvenile diabetes can now look forward to seeing their wishes fulfilled. Be it a meeting with Salman Khan to getting a bicycle or carom board to yes, even playing in the snow, seek and it shall be given.

The ‘Make a Wish Foundation’ — an international organisation that has completed 11 years in India and fulfilled over 10,000 wishes — has set up base in the city. And on Republic Day, they plan to bring a smile on the faces of six children by fulfilling their wishes.

“We can bring a few minutes of joy to the lives of children who have not seen much beyond hospitals,” says Deepti Bhosale from the foundation, adding that they are prohibited from mentioning the nature of a child’s illness.

Set up in the city in December, the organisation aims at helping 10 children every month and making their wishes come true. They have in the past organised a Christmas party for 50 sick children at Ruby Hall Clinic and fulfilled two wishes in December itself.

As far as this group is concerned, 16-year-old Chetana Shirke has expressed her desire to meet cine star Salman Khan, 17-year-old Megha Naikode of Yerawada and 13-year-old Shraddha Bharathe of Nigdi “would love to play in the snow.” And like the genie in Aladdin’s lamp, their wishes are soon to come true as a date has been set for Chetana to meet Salman on February 3 while tickets have been booked for Shraddha and Megha’s families to travel all the way to Kulu and Manali. Vouchers for the trip will be given to them at a function on Saturday.

The bicycle seems to be high on many a wishlist. Twelve-year-old Prashant Davare from Aundh and 11-year-old Sadan Tamboli badly want to ride around. In December, Sumit Gaikwad and Iqbal Shaikh had been presented with bicycles.

Bhosale says the most unusual wish they had been asked to grant was when a child sought to meet with former President A P J Abdul Kalam.
