Last time when rats invaded the city, the MC had called experts from Varanasi, but this time they are looking for a permanent solution. Besides, the much-awaited financial help from the Centre too is yet to arrive, said sources, adding that the problem was graver in the walled city area, where trading of edible goods takes place.
The worst-affected places include Bazaar Papparan, Chowk Chhatti Khui, Dhab Khatikan and Katra Dullo in the walled city area-the hub of dry fruits’ trade.
Areas in the vicinity, including Haripura, Sultanwind and Chatiwind, also abound in mice.
Residents have often complained of rats biting their children and damaging their rations and telephone wires to the authorities. Sources said the estimated population of mice in the walled city was above 30,000.
“The problem is quite severe as we have been receiving complaints from the residents and traders,” said Mayor Shawet Malik.
He added that they were working out plans to deal with the problem.
