Colombo, March 14: A war between Pakistan and India is no more an option to resolve their disputes as both countries have become nuclear powers, a senior Pakistan leader has said.

“Now that both countries have turned a nuclear power, I do not think war will be an option,” Mushaid Hussain Sayed, Secretary General of the pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q), said.

“War is no longer an option because of the balance of fear and apprehensions that existed between India and Pakistan since they went nuclear in 1998,” he told a conference on ‘Pakistan in the current regional context’ here.

Sayed, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, said the relationship between his country and India was improving since New Delhi had shown “sensitivity” to the Kashmir issue.

He said India had started appreciating the difficulties of Pakistani politicians on the issue and there was now an attempt to have an intra-Kashmir dialogue to resolve the problem.

The Pakistani leader noted that it had created a “relaxed atmosphere” in the south Asian region.

Sayed said he expected India to be more reciprocal towards the general mood in Pakistan for an accommodation with New Delhi.

With the problems in Afghanistan taking the centre stage, India is not seen as the enemy number one, he said.

“Terrorism has no borders. Because there is trouble in Afghanistan, there is trouble in Pakistan,” the lawmaker said.

On the internal situation in Pakistan after the recent parliamentary elections, Sayed said the military was keen to “extricate itself from politics."

PRoxy war is still a war. by Sanjay on 16 Mar 2008

It seems Pakistan is planning another attack. They first talked about peace Lahore agreement, then they attack in kagril. This is typical of them to attack when we atleast expect it. Isn't it shameless that India is talking Kashmir, we only must talk about freedom for occupied Kashmir. Kashmiri refuges, and ending the proxy war. We are still at war with Pakistan, because of the proxy war.

THE COMMENT OF THE SENATOR FROM PAKISTAN IN COLOMBO. by R. S. Samaratunga on 15 Mar 2008

The world had heard this time and time again but Pakistan is still pursuing relentlessly and aggressively to throttle the non-Islamic states in the region and beyond. Terrorism, clandestine weapons trade, all types of smuggling, and drugs trade are the major industries of Pakistan. People in the region will never believe the senator from Pakistan, Mushaid Hussain Sayed, whose comment in Sri Lanka which is another militarised despotic state with close affinity with other militarised tyrannical leadership in Iran, China, Pakistan… whose lying tongues are made up of genes of treachery. The world knows Pakistan’s active covert support to the radical Islamic fundamentalist groups in Sri Lanka and predictably the Sri Lankan Buddhists would rally support for rebellion against the present dictatorial, scandalous and corrupt regime.

It was never an option---- by romesh.sharma on 15 Mar 2008

Pakistan has acquired some nukes and missiles from China and NKorea but that doesn't mean it has become a NUCLEAR POWER.Don't over estimate your capacity and capability. This relaxed atmosphere is very temporary because Pakistan is going under extreme uncertainties and internal problems and that it has lost its face among the world community.Nobody trusts Pakistan anymore, even the USA sees through entirely different perspectives.Once the situation in pakistan comes to nomalcy and cools down it will be once again the old stand of contraversies.Reciprocation of what?Till today all CBMs and good-will overtures/actions from India or either misinterpreted as weakness or of self-interests.One thing is certain that India never startd War,will not initiate War and doesn't believe in Wars.If atall the situation comes it will be again Pakistan to start.Kashmir is integral part of India one Pakistan recognizes this the region will be prosperous and peaceful.
