Islamabad Pakistan’s war against terrorism has cost it more than 35 billion dollars, the country’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has claimed.

Addressing a joint press conference with EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana, Qureshi said Pakistan wants aid promised by the international community to provide aid to the affected people, The Dawn reports.

Speaking about his meeting with Solana, Qureshi said discussions were held to strengthen the strategic dialogue between the EU and Pakistan and some areas of cooperation were identified.

Solana, who is on a two day visit to Pakistan, said the EU recognises that Pakistan is going through difficult times and a number of steps are being taken to help Pakistan economically, including giving Pakistan market access to the European Union.

Solana visited the Jalozai Camp earlier in the day, and was briefed on the displaced families and the issues related to their assistance.

Qureshi briefed the EU foreign policy chief on the engagement of Pakistan and India at the top level, the military operation and the phased return of the IDPs.

Solana said a number of issues are on the agenda of EU's engagement with Pakistan, including terrorism.

Pleazee Uncle Sam ! by Mike Vig on 22 Jul 2009

Just another Paki way to impress Uncle $am. 35 Billion is the money Pakis never had, how did they spend it unless they used up all their stashed swiss money...seems highly unlikely! And does this include the missing $7 billion aid they received to settle down earthquake victims in occupied Kashmir? Those poor people are still homeless there, still struggling to get their lives back.

War on terror has cost us $35 billion: Pak foreign minister by BG Subhash on 22 Jul 2009

Dear Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, US$35Billion which you claim as the cost which Pakistan has incurred is nothing but a self inflicted expense and Pakistan alone is responsible for this. This US$35B is nothing when compared to Trillions of US$ which you have imposed on the world by way of harboring Terrorist activities since 1947!Pakistan and its citizens should immediately change their mindset of expansionism ie claiming others land as their own by hook or crook, Beg ,Borrow or steel and instead they should build their society. Even if Afghanistan or Kashmir is given to you on a silver platter your Rich

Qureshi's Account Keeping by Chandramohan Shinde on 22 Jul 2009

Qureshi should correct his statement. It has cost US $ 35 billion to fight war on terror; some of these billions have gone in the coffers of Paki politicians and high ranked uniformed men ! Pakis only played a role of hired butcher in this so called war on terror !!

Need Documentation, Mr. Qureshi! by Samir on 22 Jul 2009

Can Mr. Qureshi please give the world the documentation on his claims without any fine print and charm? And of course his efforts have not "penetrated" the terrorist camps to be effective!! Why don't they create good jobs for their nationals rather than pulling down other nations?!

War On Terror by Clifford Fernandes on 22 Jul 2009

You are the one who created terrorists so don't complain now as it is your own creation.

How much is a Billion? by Mahesh Mantri on 21 Jul 2009

A country which had hardly a billion dollars left in reserve just few months back claims to have spent 35 billion dollars to fight it's own created terrorism is nothing but laughable. Shah mahmood qureishi is good at giving these kind of statements. Our diplomats (most of them namby pamby both in looks and language) should learn art of deception from Pakistan's foreign minister. We would do certainly better in international forum I must say!

Cost of terrorism by Hero Vaz on 21 Jul 2009

The Paki minister has missed one important thing: He has not said how much it cost Pak to create the terrorism. Of course, all the terrorism funds have come from drugs and American aid. That is why he doesn't find it worrying or something to even mention.

And how much money do you spend on terrorism? by DR.CHURAN CHOR on 21 Jul 2009

And how much money do you spend on terrorism?

is this a joke? by vikram on 21 Jul 2009

ha ha ha...what a joke? may i say indian naxals have cost us 50 billion dollars!!! and yeah pak can very well fudge the figures and scream out loud...they even fooled US till now... or rather to say USA chose to pretend it was dumb....USA is messing now in India, but they will pay a biger price this time...

War on Terror by PakPakistani on 21 Jul 2009

Its shameful that Pakistani FM is trying to extend his hand for more aid from western nations by calculating the cost of war on terror. Mr.10%(P Pres has surely a share to his name in it. Its unfortunate that Pakistan never got onto the right track for decades. They've been ruled by corrput politicians and military leaders. The nation is in a mess! At one time US militarily supported them not because of mercy but because India was with Russia during the cold war. (Now India is becoming a better customer). After occupation of Afghanistan by Russia and their growing influence in Indian subcontinent, US trained mujahideen to drive Russians away (not for the freedom of Afghans). Then the US ran away leaving the mess of Afghanistan and warlords for Pakistan. Pakistan trained Taleban so that they could take care of Afghanistan, but it retaliated. Now US wants to pull out of Afghanistan and pay Pakistan to fight the terrorists. This is the Live and let die policy of the West!

Beggars should not get into wars - even proxy wars by Mahesh on 21 Jul 2009

Pak is payingb the price for its indescretions. Pak always thought that US will funds its (Pak's) terror and that can be used against it India, until US tightened the screws and beggars had to resort to begging US for money to fund even their own very survival! India too has paid the price of having such a nasty neighbour like Pakistan and the entire region has paid the price because of the Pak terror cocoon and nest. In fact the whole world has paid the price a heavy price of divided world full of hatred because of Pak sponsored terror worldwide, Includeing 9/11. What can one expect of the beggars who bite the hand that feeds it - the hand of US and India.

jlt by mtg on 21 Jul 2009

may we ask how much did it cost to train the terrorists? the double speak will not do. as country, a politician and an establishment, pakistan will have to bear the consequences costs wise, otherwise of their own action. the help given would be accountable and returnable. without which the world will not care a bit in seeing pak sink into morass of anarchy, brutality and civil unrest. the pak military establishment is still debating, still abetting. they have to understand their priorities; in terrorist driven society, even they will not be able to live. unfortunately, the fools are just not getting the point.
